Mythical Match-ups - past and present

Post by NateJR »

Thought it would be interesting and maybe spice some things up a bit.. So I made a list of mythical match-ups to see how the greats from the present and the past would match up against each other. Some of the match-ups are between guys from the same eras but for what ever reasons never fought but would have been high profile fights if they had been made. This is just for fun and there is no right or wrong answer, lets hear your opinions and keep is civilized.

Meldrick Taylor vs. Kostya Tszyu @ 140

Miguel Cotto vs. Felix Trinidad @ 147

Fernando Vargas vs. Canelo Alvarez @ 154

Bernard Hopkins vs. Marvin Hagler @ 160

Prime Roy Jones Jr. vs. Ray Robinson @160

Bernard Hopkins vs. James Toney @ 160

Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Erik Morrales @ 135

i think the only pick u made that actually shocks me is napoles over gavilan

the others that i may not lean towards are at least pretty possible
With the little bit of footage I've seen of them, I was actually just winging it.. I only made picks on the ones I was more familiar with, but there were some names there I just haven't seen enough of to make a knowledgeable pick on. Didn't really have the time to do much research or search for footage on them.

Well they are my 2 all time favorite fighters.. But I do tend to lean towards Floyd. Floyd would pot shot and hold Trinidad and get him frustrated in route to a UD IMO.. But Trinidad would def. have a punchers chance and could have made it a tough night for Floyd.

It's really a pick'em fight for me.. I feel Floyd is more disciplined than Whitaker was. Not that I think it's a easy fight for Floyd I just feel he'd get Whitaker out of his game plan and Whitaker would be forced to be the aggressor. That cute stuff that Whitaker did against guys that came forward, that's not going to work in the middle of the ring against Floyd. Floyd IMO is faster and a much more rounded fighter.. Whitaker was all natural talent, Floyd is a much more schooled fighter with that natural talent on top of that.. I feel Floyd has all the tools to beat Whitaker and vice versa, I just think Floyd would be more likely to stick to his game plan and Whitaker would be doing a lot of things out of character.

i'd love to see prime (pre jan 1947 plane crash, which took a lot out of him) willie pep at feather (or 130) against ANYBODY from the 1960's-now. even though he lost 3 of his 4 saddler fights after that pep still cleanly beat guys saddler had a hard time with when pep wasn't at his best. would be amazing to see prime pep against the best of each decade.

pep v rigondeaux
pep v pacman
pep v floyd
pep v jmm
pep v terrible morales
pep v barrera
pep v hamed
pep v paez
pep v fenech
pep v nelson
pep v mcguiggan
pep v pedroza
pep v arguello
pep v davey moore
pep v ?

would also like to see all these guys fight saddler
