In their respective primes who would win this match?

Tough one. No question Taylor outworks Trinidad, but Tito hits harder than anyone Taylor fought (I think), and would land a higher percentage too. I think the Taylor who fought Chavez gets so far in Tito's face that he stops him working effectively and getting full leverage. Chavez was a better inside fighter, and that's what ultimately got Taylor into the deep water (regardless of whether you feel he should have been stopped). I think there's a reasonable chance that Tito gets through late on, but on balance, I see Taylor winning.

Presumably this is at Welter?

I think Trindad obliterates him.

For some reason I hadn't considered the weight :o

That said, it seemed to most that the decline in Taylor's performances were due to the Chavez fight (some saying the punishment he took, others the damage it did mentally to take all that and still be "robbed"), rather than due to the weight.

Taylor was not to bright inside the ring and Trinidad would have no respect for his power. So a seek and destroy Trinidad would have taken Taylor in 4 maybe 5 rounds.

I could see Taylor posting a shut-out for the first 4 or 5 rounds but once Tito catches him with something big there's no way Taylor is going to be able to keep him off and it's Goodnight Vienna shortly afterward.

Looks like I'm on my own with this. Maybe I underrate Tito.

Tito KOs him big time. He would be outbox in the first rounds by Taylor, but, Tito's pressure would be too much for him. Trinidad by KO in the 9th round.

Then,,,,,,,'KABOOM'.......Felix assaults Meldrick with a barrage and floors him 'twice'
in Round 8 - before being saved by the Referee.

Lou Duva screams.......that the Referee stopped it too early,,,,,,,,and demands a rematch....

He was not all that, but pretty good when he was around. I think the De La Hoya fight made me think of him as just another fighter. Not an all time great in my view.

I agree with you. It looked like the welterweight division was too big for Meldrick Taylor. Tito by KO in late rounds in an exciting match between puncher/slugger vs boxer.
