As far as I'm aware Horse is NOT a professional pugilist so this comment is absurd.

Hopkins-Murat is off, as Murat couldn't get into the USA. So Hopkins needs a new dance partner.

If Fwank isn't on the phone to Golden Boy this weekend, he deserves to get fired.

Kovalev smashed Cornelius White last night, prompting Freddie Roach to state "he is the most exciting guy around right now" or something to that effect.

White is no mug and yet was systematically broken up by that jab and then clobbered in three, one-sided rounds.

Sergey moves to become the IBF #1 now and I forecast we wont see Clev fighting him for a number of reasons. Monday will be interesting to see if Kovalev hasnt had a Hopkins offer chucked at him, given Murat's withdrawal.

Let's hope not for Clev's sake.

Watched the fight on youtube. Dont think Cleverly has anything to be afraid of personally.

It's not what he does personally Taffy , it's what is promised and then what is actually delivered.

This one however, is a good fight. It will be a good win too (in my book anyway).
This is exactly right. Look at my posts through the years and I was a real Cleverley 'cheerleader'. However like many i've been turned into a cynic by the matchmaking of the last three years.
I don't believe for a second that the Kovalev match will happen in reality, despite what may be claimed over the coming months... and if it did, based on what I've seen of Kovalev to date I'd favour him to win inside the distance.

Just watch Kovalevs last fight. Impressed by what I saw looked like he was doing damage with everything he threw will defs be keeping an eye on him going forward. IMO would be a very risky fight for Clev. I was hoping the Braehmer fight would be next but he has a European Title defence soon so that may not happen for a bit now :-(

Can see Kovalev being sidelined for a while now, Murat is still the IBF mandatory, so he'll have to wait 9 months after Hopkins-Murat, whenever that should happen, to fight for the title and who would be stupid enough to take a voluntary against him?

Horse doesn't call himself a world champion. Sorry but if you are going to carry that moniker, you should at least try and live upto it, and Clev hasn't (yet anyway).

It says it all that once a dangerous opponent comes into the sphere people are saying it probably won't happen. If he fights Kovalev and beats him then I will start to take him seriously.

Kovalev is kind of limited but he should have more than enough for Cleverly. Nothing personal, Taffy.

Yeah I agree. When i watched amateur fights of his, he seemed a good boxer. There's one of him against Matt Korobov floating about on youtube somewhere. Anyway his boxing skills seem to of gone backwards and now he just seems like a straight up puncher. I preferred him when he boxed aswell as being a power puncher.

I used to think Cleverly got an unfair ride on forums like this one, but I have to say that his opposition over the last 18 months has been shite, he's been too inactive and his career has stalled. No amount of press releases about "upcoming" unification bouts can mask that.

I'm slightly surprised, as against White I thought he showed nice skills as well - very relaxed, good head movement for an Eastern European etc. I don't see him as that limited on that showing I have to say...

yeah, now he's destroying guys, which can help your career a little bit in the pros, ppl don't like him as much!

ok he looks a little heavy in the legs, but he's a light heavyweight and when he puts shots together he's pulverising guys, notably the very difficult campillo, whom i've never seen seriously hurt before.

light heavyweight, with kovalev, stevenson, and cleverly whom we know can get stuck in, as well as shumenov, not a bad offensive fighter himself, is capable of producing some brutal fights - could maybe even start matching the cruiserweight division for action. i know froch prefers making super middleweight, but imagine if froch was added to this mix. i kind of prefer froch in this kind of brutal matchup, as opposed to another go with jab-and-grab master ward down at 168.

I thought he was eating quite a lot of jabs and he was throwing mainly power punches throughout the fight. You could be right though. I think after watching the likes of Rigondeaux my expectations have become a bit unrealistic! Haha.

 He did take a few jabs to be fair, and there was one shot (I think in the second) that caused him to 'stiffen' a bit, but I put that down to the fact that he realised very early on that White had nothing to bring in relative terms, so was comfortable with just walking him down and firing off strong combos. Just liked his relaxed demeanour and shot selection. :TU:

Kovalev demanded Hopkins after his win.

“Bernard, come on. Come to fight me. Are you ready?! ”

Seems like an odd fight for Warren to make; big risk against someone who isn't that well-known.

The IBF also just ordered negotiations to begin for Kovalev-Hopkins, and Kovalev's promoter re-tweeted 49 minutes ago that they've sent an email to Golden Boy to start negotiations.
