Where has the British arrogance/self confidence come from
Where has the British arrogance/self confidence come from
In the past 10years?
I absolutely love it but ten+ years ago (besides naz) British fighters were generally quite quiet and American fighters were always known to be ultra confident, arrogant and deemed quite disrespectful to some however the roles have completely reversed we have seen Haye, Chisora, Fury, Calzaghe etc talk a lot and you often see the phrase 'Loudmouth Brits' banged about now and that generally never used to happen.
Is this down to more exposure, promotion or the decline of the American heavies I don't know but it is interesting how much the roles have reversed.

I think there's always been fighters either mouthing off or being quoted as "saying something".
These days with TV and media exposure it's easy to see how people are aping US fighters.

Strange one that, someone, somewhere mustve been caught at somepoint. Be a bizzare thing to make up. Theres a guy in a town about 20miles from me called "Dick one cow" - somewhat dissapointingly (not for the cow)he actually owns one cow and keeps it in the back garden of his house. In the same town (true story this) there is a bloke with one eye who got caught trying to have sex with his neighbours dog in the back garden during a house party. He was prosecuted, and during the summing up the judge said "i hope for your sake your sight doesnt deteriorate in your good eye as i dont think a guide dog would be appropriate" .TJ77 wrote:A fair and honest analogy you failed to mention your affection for sheep but that aside fair do's like.Wales wrote:I dont find us welsh arrogant, i think we know our place. In a nutshell we've moved on to dogs now! Think its down to not having to eat them after.
Re: Where has the British arrogance/self confidence come from
simple its come from America we all ape their rap stars now just like the US sportsman. Also people don't seem to mind giving it the big one and then being found out. They all believe they must constantly say they are the best if they are going to be any good.

It's "Men of Harlech" my Welsh grandfather used to sing a funny version, I can still remember two lines ...Wales wrote:Not an issue, knock out bells of harlech and hope they eff off.

Yeah mate. There are never any fights in streets involving the Welsh are there. They always start belting out 'Cwm rhondda' if someone winds them up.

I can't speak the language the way that I could when I was 18. But I can still understand it perfectly.Fat Git wrote:Glad to see life in Aber wasn't wasted after all!jameswilson wrote:One of the translations in the first song are incorrect.Fat Git wrote:Two clips from the great 'Hedd Wynn' which was a whisker from winning an oscar.

I suppose living in Swansea for your time at University was about as much use as 2 tits on a fish wasn't it? Hardly anyone can speak it down there.

Not in Swansea but go 10 miles towards Ammanford and it is pretty much Welsh speaking around there.jameswilson wrote:I can't speak the language the way that I could when I was 18. Funny thing though is that I have been called a 'saes' and the ones calling it (they do it in the way Bernard Manning talked about his Indian neighbour, 'oh you are allright, it is just the rest of them.) are no more Welsh than I am, they are usually of English or Irish descent and are amazed that I am only the second generation of my dad's family not to be native Welsh speakers - their Saes speaking pedigree goes back a lot farther.
Re: Where has the British arrogance/self confidence come from
I never understood why Welsh people did that. Isn't it only spoken by about 2% of the country? I reckon they only do it to annoy visiting English people.Wales wrote: I dont find us welsh arrogant, i think we know our place. Sheer bloody mindedness :) When you cross from India into Nepal, the time changes by 15 minutes. There's no reason, they're at the same longtitude, but the Nepalese want to remind you that you're in a different country now. Same deal, I reckon! Croeso in Cymru, set your clock forward 3 min!ILikeBeer wrote:I never understood why Welsh people did that. Isn't it only spoken by about 2% of the country?
