His standard of opponent so far has been so poor that is there any real point bankrolling these type of fights ? I'd imagine he'd gain more value by sparring some of the top names in the gym.

Unless he get's clobbered, he'll be fighting for a world title by the time he's 20. They're doing it the right way.

once he has a decent ranking its fairly easy to get a world title fight if you don't mind being on the wrongside of a lopsided purse deal. winning one is another matter as is the question of whether it is in the long term interests of the boxer to do so much heavy training and fighting at such a young age.

Well according to Peter Fury, he wants Hughie to have 15 fights by the end of the year. I figure by that time he will be in the running for the EBU and British/Commonwealth championship, and be gunning for Richard Towers. I'd like to see him against someone like Tom Dallas in his next few fights, I think he's certainly ready for that, after all he is the chief sparring partner for a top 5 heavyweight in his cousin Tyson Fury and has incredible reflexes for a guy who is 6'8" and 240 pounds himself.

One fight in particular I think would be interesting for Hughie, would actually be that of James Toney. Toney has been calling out Tyson Fury for almost two years now, and he recently lost to Lucas Browne in a bad way. He may never get a chance at Tyson, but he could at Hughie. I think that would be a very interesting test indeed, when Hughie gets to 15-0-0 at the end of the year, if Team Fury decides to ever take that.

Good post. The only point I'd pick up on is that unless Hughie has grown over the last month or so, I don't think he's 6'8". There is some confusion about his height, he appeared to have about an inch or so on me and I'm 6'5".

I was sorta thinking that too. Watching him and his cousin side by side in interviews Tyson makes Hughie look like a very small man. So 6'5" could be more correct than 6'8". Sorta the reverse of Lennox Lewis, where they said he was 6'5" but was in fact closer to 6'8".

It depends on how much trouble the young boxer is likely to get into if they are not kept busy.

Gary cornish, chris burton, matt skelton, tom dallas then martin rogan for the irish title would be a great run of opponents over the next 12 months for fury. If he fights 3. Of these guys i would be very happy with his progress.
