Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Fury would probably make big Frank look good, in that he could probably hit him at will and his punches would have dramatic effect. Haye on the other hand would probably out-speed Frank. Likewise obviously the Klitchkos would be a bridge too far.
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Sorry but your all wrong! Bruno would shit himself with fury and fury would win late doors, I think haye would stop him mid rounds and the price one I'm not to sure about, pre Thomson I would say price , your all looking at the past through rise tinted spectacticles who did Bruno actually beat? No one apart from an under motivated McCall and a scared Anders eklund, can you lot see Bruno going to America to stop a top ranked heavyweight and former world champion still in his prime coming of a split decision loss against another top contender? I can't , its all about levels fury was a bronze medalits in the world junior championships! haye number 2 in the world amateur! bruno won an aba title and struggled v rudi pika,an to say Bruno would of beat vitali and wlad is utter nonsense.
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
He also beat Coetzee and Carl Williams. Even if he was pooing himself (and I don't think Fury is as frightening as the real Tyson by a long way) he'd still be dangerous. He shook Tyson up, and that punch would probably have put Fury to sleep. Add the fact that Fury has neither defence or stamina, and it's a win for Frank. Vitali beats him all night long, and he needs to get lucky and land against Wlad; the current Wlad probably wins 7 or 8 out of 10, but the younger Wlad I'd give the edge to Bruno.

Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
I'm a Bruno fan, but I'm not buying that he gets ANY wins over Wlad. The reason Haye didn't get very far in his fight (other than the silly toe excuse) was Wlad matched him for hand-speed. Frank with the best will in the world only had average speed, but obviously heavy hands. Although he never did score a knock-down in any of his world title fights, which might be a little telling. But ability-wise the fact he beat a still fresh McCall, probably means more than beating Kevin Johnson, Cunningham and Chisora. This was a McCall who was good enough to beat the Danny Williams crushing, Sinan Şamil Sam a whole 12 years later in Sam's home country of Turkey. And also stop the under-rated, Henry Akinwande 2 years after he lost to Frank.SamWise72 wrote:He also beat Coetzee and Carl Williams. Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
The Wlad that got stopped by Brewster, Sanders and Purrity is definitely going to lose a few to Bruno, who is levels above at least the first and last of those. Haye's lack of success with Wlad was due to him not coming forward; Bruno would, and most times that would cost him, but sometimes he's going to get through with the big bombs. All his WT fights were against men who could really take a shot, which Wlad doesn't do well. Haye surrendered, and Bruno never did that, not even in that final Tyson fight, where I agree he looked terrified, and he has also admitted he knew he couldn't see right and shouldn't even be fighting. If you're prepared to go out on your shield, it's possible to put a big shot on Wlad still.

Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
In Britain, Haye beats him; Chisora has a shot at outworking him due to Dereck's style (just), but the rest don't have a prayer.stevedoc wrote:how would of frank Bruno done today vs british and world level fighters .a fight vs haye would be close also vs fury or price .
World level, for what it's worth, the K2s hand Bruno his customary late mid to late stoppage with his stamina depleting fast.
I'd take Bruno to beat the rest of the shower of HWs around today, although I can't say that with any certainty, because I don't really know how good Deontay Wilder is.

Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Wilder would at least have a chance, because he really does hit hard, and Bruno would freeze if tagged by him. Whether his "stand of bamboo in a hurricane" approach would be effective in stopping Bruno I'm not sure, but I wouldn't consider it out of the question. Price would also stand a chance for the same reason (Price stands a chance with anyone, with that power)
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Bruno would of spanked haye!!! He managed to close down on a prime Tyson & I don't think haye is anywhere near that class!
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Don't talk crap haha he got lucky with a slightly past it tyson ( he started his decline v Bruno watch all his fights) and still did nothing with him apart from hold, haye is more of an athlete and would of outboxed Bruno and landed big in the mid rounds, why do people look at the past through rose tinted specs !?

Tyson was very reckless & aggressive versus Bruno in 1989.
Tyson took a gamble & went with the sole intention of destroying Bruno & got his knees buckled for his efforts.
David Haye is far more cautious & would have boxed Bruno & utilised his superior speed to win rounds & then closed in for the kill when Bruno's stamina eventually depleted, as it always did whenever he was in a tough fight.

I love a statement like that, you're opinion on how a fictional fight would go is wrong... jokethe truth wrote:Sorry but your all wrong! Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
There was a good article in Boxing News around 5 years ago, maybe less. Fictional matchups between Haye and all the best UK heavies of the past. The only one they didn't pick Haye to win was against Lewis. In relation to Bruno, I recall they imagined Haye's handspeed and movement being too much for Bruno, and Haye winning in 8-9 rounds ...although from memory they missed off Akinwande. Which was a shame!

Boxing News writers are no better than people on here and their opinion means no more. In some cases less. Like all fictional match ups, we will never know.polecateddy wrote:There was a good article in Boxing News around 5 years ago, maybe less. I bet none of them think Johnny Nelson beats Marciano tho, Ted.
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Those aren't all the same Wlad's and Bruno didn't have the attributes that won the fights for his opponents.SamWise72 wrote:The Wlad that got stopped by Brewster, Sanders and Purrity is definitely going to lose a few to Bruno, who is levels above at least the first and last of those.
Purrity beat a relative novice in 98, Sanders shocked him with his southpaw stance, superior speed and power and Brewster somehow survived a hellacious beating to turn the tables 5 & 6 years later. I'd pick Bruno to beat Wlad in 96 (last year of Bruno's career, first year of Wlad's) but that's not really the point of mulling over fictional fights is it?

Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Bruno probably would have suited Wlad. It is a predictable style. Average hand speed. Predictable skills. Wlad prob would have had an easy win.
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
All the Wlads had the same chin, and even the very best Wlad can't prevent it from ever being hit. Bruno hit harder than anyone Wlad has fought in recent years, since he became so safety first; I think him getting through once or twice out of ten is pretty realistic. Bruno is a better boxer than any of the other three, see the Lewis fight for instance. He's not as good as Wlad, or as tall, but he'd get through behind his jab a few times. I think that if Haye had gone in to win, he'd have had a similar chance; it wasn't likely to happen, but doing what he did made it impossible he could win. Bruno would try to win, and most likely go out on his shield as a result, but for me, in one of those fictional "they fight ten times" situations, he's getting through at least once, and that's all he needs.Shirow wrote:Those aren't all the same Wlad's and Bruno didn't have the attributes that won the fights for his opponents.SamWise72 wrote:The Wlad that got stopped by Brewster, Sanders and Purrity is definitely going to lose a few to Bruno, who is levels above at least the first and last of those.

Who has haye beat at heavy?? Notable,Ruiz great name & still tough but got cut up by a journeyman on the valuev undercard & looked pants.Syntax Error wrote:Not really comparable.hurlock wrote:Bruno would of spanked haye!!! Haye done great at cruiser the enzo win is overated IMO
He struggled v fragomini & the Dane digging deep to pull it out the fire.a semi retired nor mech took a wading then clipped haye over & almost out where haye showed true courage.
It's muggy to say Tyson was past it. People who make them comments say other muggy things like Tyson only won via intimidation !
Bruno gave Lewis one of his hardest fights. Frank was a front runner who would dominate then get exhausted late on.
Lewis would of ko'd haye within 2rds

Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
I had a re-watch of Bruno/Lewis last night. Bruno was certainly having sporadic success, and did move if not stun Lewis in the 3rd and 7th round. But he also seemed too muscle-bound. The jab wasn't landing very accurately at all, and he seemed generally a little clumsy. I just don't think he could of outboxed either K brother, or Haye for that matter.

Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
You have to remember that the Lewis who fought Bruno hadn't physically and mentally matured as a heavyweight. If i remember correctly, Bruno was his first defence after being awarded the belt after Bowe threw it in a garbage can ? If you look at Lewis in that fight and then the Lewis who fought Holyfield twice, Tyson etc, it's a completely different fighter. Lennox didn't mature as a heavyweight until his early 30's and was still on a learning curve when he fought Bruno, who at that stage was far more experienced that Lennox, even though he hadn't won a belt at that stage.
Re: frank Buno vs todays heavies
Or maybe holy & Tyson were past it quixall
Lewis in how he destructed rid dock was class.
Lewis was more powerfull & slow later on but his athleticism was incredible!! Many say ali's best boxing was as Cassius clay & naz as a super bantam & early on had terrific waist movement less powerfull but much harder to hit.
Vitali is past it now, but was easily the most credible easily
Wlad has just been slowly building his legacy & now is the fresher & better but No way near as good as vitali on his nihht
