Braddock vs Louis

Has anybody seen this, how did it play out. Had Braddock somethin left for the greatone. He knocked Louis down in the first so was that bout close?

No, it wasn't close. James did have a good jab and Braddock did catch Joe with a sneaky right hand but Louis got up immediatly and proceeded to really punish Braddock for the next 6 rounds. Braddock's face turned into silly-putty.

searched for articles of that fight and found out that Braddock was suppose to fight Schmelling .. instead ended up fighting Louis. Bad luck. .. And it was interesting that people at that time had written Louis off because the one loss against Schmelling and Braddock was a favorite in that one

.. Jim also had two year layoff that probably winked in Bombers favour. Might it have gone differentely?

I hanevt seen Louis much but as much I have read it seems that he looked(tools) much like Tyson without the lack of heart and .. well without all the faults Tyson had. But like with every old fighter it has probably been hyped into Bolivia :P .. maybe not.

..cultus..the whole story about why louis fought braddock instead of schmeling getting the shot is covered in a lot of detail in a lot of sources. there is a new book out that is totally about louis/schemeling which goes into the entire history. check it out....ramifications about much more than boxing.

re:" braddock being the favorite.....i'd check more sources for that one. i'm sure it was one of the few times that the chalenger for the title was the favorite over the champion, as louis had gone on a winning streak after the schmeling defeat.

...(off the subject.....marciano was also the favorite to defeat walcott when he challenged him for the title. a lot of marciano backers were very nervous during the match itself.)

im sure there's lot of books about lot of things, just not sure il get them in this eastern world of small Estonia. real expensive stuff when I start ordering from US of A. Im blacked out. Only people who box around here are Estonian version of russians whom I don't trust one bit.

..cultus....glad you can connect with boxrec.....you'll get a lot of information here...some misinformation too....but overall i think it's a better source than not. great place to post questions. if a debatable answer comes up you can be sure other sides will be posted. much of the time though the writings about dates, records and factual data are reliable.

braddock is my favorite fighter in history, anyone on here will tell you that...so this is completley non-biased.

Braddock was NEVER close. Before the fight began, braddock had to have his right hand, his best hand, numbed up because he had terrible arthritis.
In the first round, it was really an even round, braddock just caught louis with one of those lucky punches. it proved to everyone that braddock still had something left in him, that he could still fight. Louis was always in danfger of those lucky punches. After about the 4 round or so, i would say it was a little in favor of louis, then louis started to break away, and he really beat up on the champ. braddock took one of the worse beating i have ever seen, and he carried the scars for the rest of his life...

after the 7th round, Joe Gould (lifetime friend/trainer) told braddock that he had had enough and that he was finally gonna stop the fight..braddock replied... "joe, if you do that ill never speak to you again.." sure enough braddock went out there and tried to give joe the best he had. braddock said that he saw a slight opening and figured he had to try and take it. but joe was too good, and as braddock came in, he hit him with possibly the hardest punch of his career. that is why braddock seems to stumble before falling. it was the first time braddock had ever been KO.

joe louis and braddock became pretty good friends, and as they met later in on, braddock became the only fighter louis fought, that louis would call champ. louis said he had tremendous respect for braddock and his heart.

joe louis was in a class of his own.

braddock was not the favorite.. i think it was 7-1 in favor of louis??
