Amateur & Pro nights

They sound a good idea, whats the main problem the board has with such events?

A friend of mine is hoping to promote (help promote) them in north Wales if / when the bboc decides they're allowed. He believes that in areas such as North Wales an amateur fighter is more likely to continue down his boxing career path by seeing what lies at the end of the path, i.e the professional game.
At present in NW there are no pro shows, nothing for young kids to aspire to unless television coverage or travel is involved, it always appears a million miles away on TV or when two guys youve never seen down the gym or spoke to are in there. He's hoping by bringing the kids and the pros closer the future of the sport in our area might prosper.

So back to my question... whats the problem ?

I think it was proposed because they thought Khan was going to stay amateur but with his good following he would still have drawn in the crowds to watch so put him on with a couple of other amateurs on a pro card and people would have been prepared to come and pay to see him etc.

I guess now he has gone pro the divide between amateur and pro will remain

Fanwise it is still a really good idea. I hate the delays in between fights at a show and amateur boxing could slot in nicely, Amir Khan or not.

Depends what show etc. some don't have breaks

The problem lies mainly with the amateur code, to mainy narrow minded old stick in the muds.
