Taylor had speed but Benitez defense would have neutralize that. I pick Benitez by decision. Taylor was flashy but not smart.

I'm in the Benitez camp too.

Wilfred was just far too slick & defensive, although Taylor's extraordinary speed would have given Benitez problems, ala Sugar Ray Leonard, but the difference between Taylor & Leonard was that SRL was a beast & could turn slugger to great effect, whereas Taylor was not like that.

Benitez by wide decision. His style would fluster Taylor all night long.

The great Wilfred Benitez did not do much to begin with. It was more of what the great Roberto Duran did not do than anything. Put those two at their very best from 147 lbs down, and we see different outcomes. Maybe Benitez on the floor crawling just like Esteban Dejesus did in fight #3.

Benitez is on another skill level than Meldrick. Taylor would have his spurts but Benitez would win by UD.

In my humble opinion we never saw the best Benitez, a old timer who was involved with him told me he never , ever fully trained for a fight from what he saw

Well, we can only go by what we saw; I don't care for comments about how this or that guy never trained when evaluating these match-ups.

Meldrick Taylor with his quick-fisted 'in-and-out' attacks would 'edge' out Wilfred Benitez at Light Welterweight.

Welterweight, a different story, as it would be Wilfred in a close one....
I agree.

I'll def go with Benitez, an absolute master of defence, but saying that in this day & age what with the way judges see things I'd not be suprised to see Meldrick get the nod, all due to the fact he's throwing leather albeit at thin air juxtaposed with Wilfredo just grinning.

If Benitez fought like he normally did, he would win this. However, occasionally he would have a bad performance, and Taylor would win in that case.

Indeed, he was a hot and cold fighter. If he's on though, I favor Benitez.
