Obviously Joe had the left-hook rep, but Tyson is far more powerful and dynamic as a hitter. Louis a distant third!

Walcott was another one with a great hook. I'd probably put his over Tyson's too.

Shavers, Norton, Ruddock, Quarry, Cooney, Morrison; all booming left hooks.

Frazier's was a little better than Tyson's, Tyson's a little better than the Brown Bomber's. They are probably the top 3 for heavyweights, though there are some other's not that far behind.
Re: Who had the best left hook out of these three men?
Dempsey has to be in the argument.
Re: Who had the best left hook out of these three men?
joe louis.....not as wide as the others.....could hook off a jab....hooked from conventional stance....and with great speed and power..
Re: Who had the best left hook out of these three men?

Louis was way past it when he fought Charles. He was old and coming off a layoff.

I would put Frazier tops, but anyone who doubts the power of Louis's left hook needs to watch him nearly decapitate Al Ettore with the hook . . BRUTAL knockout.
Re: Who had the best left hook out of these three men?
Louis's left hook is underrated because his right hand was so good.

Dempsey's left hook was once clocked at 170 mph. I think he has an argument to be up there with Joe Frazier. Jesus bless.

170 MPH, huh?HomicideHenry wrote:Dempsey's left hook was once clocked at 170 mph. I think he has an argument to be up there with Joe Frazier. Jesus bless.
Well, did you know Frazier was employed by a slaughter house decapitating 1,200 pound steers.
One punch, head on the floor.
All day, every day.

Amazing isnt it....shame these three couldnt have tested their left hooks on one person so they could give an informed opinion...The End wrote:Boy, oh boy. Louis once threw a left hook so hard, that it ripped open a hole in the space time continuum. NASA is still trying to repair it.yancey wrote:170 MPH, huh?HomicideHenry wrote:Dempsey's left hook was once clocked at 170 mph. I think he has an argument to be up there with Joe Frazier. Jesus bless.
