It's only what I can remember reading, either Boxing News or Boxing Monthly or on here.columbo wrote:Well I have a feeling that, that Barney fella hired a head of boxing as like you said he couldnt be bothered with the hassle of it! Saying that though, with Matchroom doing a lot of business with sky in regards to the darts, snooker, etc, maybe Barney was involved and told Adam to make the deal with matchroom! So you could be right.palooka wrote:I thought Smith was a real boxing fan and enjoyed the sport and company of boxers etc; where he went to school is irrelevant, with him taking the time to write a book about his experiences in boxing and the people he has met I wouldn't have thought he'd have done anything to harm the sport. I do think that a monopoly of boxing dates hurts the sport and we have to support BN as a viable alternative.

Hatton and Maloney kicked up a stink about te loss of their Sky deal and refused to work with another promoter, Matchroom, in order to have their fights shown on Sky.
Instead, they are working with another Promoter (FW) in order to have their fights shown on BN.
The Sky suggestion that promoters work together is seen as an unworkable monopoly and the FW version is seen as the saviour of boxing. Tis a funny old world.

I find it odd that Calzaghe's biggest fights against Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and Roy Jones - were shown on ITV and Setanta.
Yet Sky are the disloyal ones ?
Also when all these promoters were jostling together on sky, none of them worked with one another.
The focus of my mind, are the fighters and their trainers, whose extremely short careers get frittered away as they sit on the bench.
Boxing's problems aren't unique to the UK, it's the same abroad, with rivals jostling for the top spot and in love with one channel one moment, next thing they are mud.
Even the TV exec's are playing musical chairs with Ross Greenburg going from HBO to Sho, and Ken Hershman heading the other way.
Everybody is cutting their cloth to suit their currently situation- nobody in the wrong, nobody in the right - everyone just looking out for their company and their stable of fighters at the end of the day. To blame one party in all this is daft.

...could we you know...wait and see what allegedly are actually doing with these guys...and WHY DID IT TAKE THIS fornicating LONG? allegedly should have snapped up the other promoters from the off, then they might have been able to keep their promise of "2 shows a week for the price of a pint"
Re: allegedly : the patron saint & saviour of British Boxing
There is a bit of a difference. SKY will not deal with any other promoter than Eddie Hearn directly. Any other promoter wanting their fighters or shows on SKY must do so as a joint promotion with Matchroom, with arrangements made via Eddie Hearn. This was confirmed recently by Dennis Hobson when he tried to speak to SKY about showing Jamie McDonnell's world title fight. It was clear however at the allegedly press conference yesterday that each promoter has signed a deal with allegedly, not Fr@nk W@rren. The promoters are prepared to work with one another, but they also have the option to do their own promotional shows on the channel independent from W@rren. As Frank Maloney confirmed allegedly has allowed him to keep his independence as a promoter.earsjohn wrote:Hatton and Maloney kicked up a stink about te loss of their Sky deal and refused to work with another promoter, Matchroom, in order to have their fights shown on Sky.

The real winners here are the fans and the boxers. Boxers can now chop and change promoters knowing they can still be on TV. For example Ricky Burns recently left Fr@nk W@rren to join Matchroom. If things don't work out for him it's very unlikely he would go back to Fr@nk W@rren. He could however join Hatton Promotions or Maloney Promotions knowing he'll still be featured on regular TV shows. Even though he'd be back on allegedly, he wouldn't have to be anywhere near Fr@nk W@rren.
Re: allegedly : the patron saint & saviour of British Boxing
There was a hint during the press conference that the British output has been limited on the channel due to restricted funds. It was also suggested however that once Steel tycoon Bill Ives becomes a become a major shareholder in the company in the coming days, allegedly will be looking to put out 30 British shows in the next year. It could be that until now, allegedly simply couldn't afford the required amount of dates to keep various promoters happy. I think Maloney originally joined allegedly on a 6 event deal. I'm not sure if this has now been extended as Price Vs. Thompson II would be event 5, if I'm not mistaken.iamasadlittleboy wrote:...could we you know...wait and see what Allegedly channel are actually doing with these guys...and WHY DID IT TAKE THIS effing LONG? Head of BT Sports Simon Green, who remains an executive director of allegedly, was at yesterdays conference. allegedly Chairman Richard Brooke did make some interesting comments about how it would be cheaper to take BT Sports and allegedly ahead of SKY Sports.iamasadlittleboy wrote:chad wrote:There was a hint during the press conference that the British output has been limited on the channel due to restricted funds. I subscribe to allegedly and SKY Sports. As a fan of the sport the amount of shows I'm getting access to via both providers is fantastic. I hope this move by allegedly forces SKY to give Eddie Hearn the extra dates he's looking for.
Re: allegedly : the patron saint & saviour of British Boxing
To ever recoup their losses BN need to be bought out. That's the end game, Fr@nk is gambling a lot of money on the hope it builds something valuable enough for somebody to take over. The subscription model will never turn major profit, if any at all.

Re: allegedly : the patron saint & saviour of British Boxing
All good and valid points, but how is Maloney, say, doing a Maloney show on BN independent from FW, when FW is the main shareholder in BN, is the very public face of the channel and has used the channel as the promoter for fights in the past (Chisora v Haye)?chad wrote:There is a bit of a difference. And on your last point, if Nathan Cleverly left FWP for Hatton, do you seriously believe that his fights would be broadcast on the channel?
