He's a long-time fringe contender and he should beat the African. I think the better question is whether he'll end up finding his way in to a title shot before his career is over (he's now 40). He's now ranked by the WBA and given that the interim title fight between Joan Guzman and Vicente Mosquera is off, it may open up an avenue for Bennett to finally get a shot.

This fellow is so far off being a fringe contender its not funny.

More like a sham fighter, closer to the Indian Fijian Rohit whatshisname than anybody in Oz boxing that I know of, worse than Demori even.

Still Bennetts proud of himself so that should be the main thing really
Anyone for a Steve Wills rematch????

He's fringe in that he's ranked by two of the organizations -- regardless of whether that's deserved or not. If guys like Paul Delgado can parlay regional success in to a title shot, I would imagine Bennett can as well.

After winning on Saturday night (29 June) the promoter was suggesting in the local media that Bennett might get a world title shot.

Good result for Chad Benett BUT Ebenezer Lamptey was ranked number 269 on Boxing Rec's light-welterweight rankings. Bennett will need to fight some much more credible contenders before he warrants a genuine crack at a world title. At least someone in the top dozen or so.

A match up with Lenny Zappavigna would be well worth seeing.

" World rated Bennett stops Lamptey " writes Ray Wheatley in Fightnews.
" Vlad Wharton is chasing a title shot for Bennett against WBO champ Juan Marquez or WBA champ Danny Garcia."
Wharton better have a decent neuro surgeon on stand by.
How can Wheatley bring himself to write this delusional stuff.
Bennett wouldn't beat Zappavigna.
