i think he might do well at world level.. but like you said lets not think to far ahead euro level is next...
I personally hate boxers who have to spoil the fight to win or in gavin's case headbutt to win it was effective butt only because the ref allowed it

Vassell was disappointing he had no real complaints when the ref stopped it.

Poor fight lots of holding and spoiling. Some low blows and head clashes most from Gavin

I definitely think it's time to step Gavin up to Euro level now, he has the skill set but probably just lacks a little something right now for world level, possibly just putting it all together consistently which may come with the confidence he gets from tonight's fight. I don't think he's ready for world level though and won't beat the top guys at that weight any time soon.

I did feel the ref was only slightly biased to Gavin tonight, Gavin did a lot of naughty stuff and then the ref tells off Vassell, which I didn't like to see, as it was Gavin who was initiating all the holding.

Vassell did his fair share of holding and hitting.
Hopkins has made a career of it.

I have to agree it was a bit of shame that there was a lot of spoiling ..but gavin had a plan a stuck to it with flashes of brilliance .... there are fighters like ward and even our ricky that do spoil in fights but thats part of their tatics i suppose...

Yeh true it reminded me of Hatton at times tonight where he would get a one-two in and then hold on. For some fights it's the best tactic, it took away Vassell's power and any chance he had in the fight, not nice to watch, but effective.

Frankie looked strong at the weight and was not troubled a great deal at all and Denton is a good, strong boxer, though the bout was untidy it weren't outright dirty or nasty and I hope Frankie moves on up now, he surprised me and I'd like to see him box Euro level soon.

Gavin made fenton look no better than a journeyman tonight ... in a way it was probably a saving grace for the stoppage as vasell confidence could have wilted the longer the fight went on .. at least in fenton next fight his confidence might still be intact....

ok mofo - without coming back with you noncey personal shite, can you tell me why the ref seemed to let gavin hit and hold, use his head as a weapon without holding then try and urge denton's corner to stop it..one last chance for you to show you are a grown man and argue your point without using personal insults..

Yes, maybe. Denton was starting to look very subdued, I imagined he'd press more but Frankie must be stronger and rougher than it seems watching.

Like i said in earlier posts, I think the southpaw stance gave him a lot of problems aswell. He didnt look very comfortable with it.

you could see the frustration quite early on with vasell's range was about 2-3 inches off ... yep frankie could have been making a statement with the stronger rougher approach as he handled vassell well enough

It was a two way event, Vasell did his fair share of holding and using the head. Mr Foster warned warned Gavin a few times but in my opinion none ware ted a point being taken away. Howard did not stop the fight he asked the doctor his professional opinion and his opinion was to stop the fight which was duly done. No bias at all. This of course is only my opinion and ifmyounreadmthemthread again a few have the same feelings. Gavin was clearly winning and there were no complaints when the fight was stopped and this in itself tells you the decision was correct.

At times he bullied Denton, manhandling him on the inside, shoving him about and while the heads came together there was no head butts, just a lot of clashes caused by Frankie ducking low and holding on, he did what he had to do to win the fight. Credit to Tom Chaney, he came up with the perfect gameplan for Frankie.

Vassell actually used the head first, and we all knew he'd try to use his strength to get into Frankies face. Frankie fought Peter McDonagh a few years ago and when it got a little dirty, Frankie was happy to play ball. Last night reminded me of that, and also of the way he wanted to prove to witter he could match him in strength.

Delighted with Frankies performance last night. Stuck to his plan, as I'd hoped he would, and Vassell couldn't get into the fight as he wasnt allowed. Frankie has a lot of criticism on here and Denton has had his fair share of praise, it would be great to see consistency on here after the fight. If I'd have said Frankie will break his jaw in 6 rounds, I'd have been laughed off here. Frankie can only beat what is put in front of him and he isn't letting anyone down.

His post fight interview showed the real Frankie, a great lad who knows where he's at. Hes a happy man now, and that shows clearly in the ring. It could have turned out differently after his issues, but it hasn't, and while there are people who have helped, there is only one man who can take credit for that. There are posts not difficult to find which say Frankie would never make British level, he's made a mockery of that view. I look forward to him continuing the trend. Well done Frankie, it was a pleasure watching and I've seen nothing which changes my view on where you'll end up in the sport.

To be fair, you're completely right. Glad to hear he put in a good showing last night and is in a better place mentally and physically. Really hope he goes on to fulfill his potential.

Frankie boxed well and too his strengths. I knew he was not going to get manhandled. People have assured me he is very physically strong. Much like when people were surprised Ward easily roughed up Froch on the inside, just because they are highly skilled boxers doesn't mean they can't get down to it when needs be. I also have always had a feeling Frankie has a very good chin.
