Someone asked here just last December what became of Thad Spencer.
According to the book he has puglistic dementia and is being cared for by one of his sons.

It's really a shame how quick his career fell. Went from being the tourny favorite after upsetting Terrell to being just a gatekeeper opponent after the knockout to Quarry, which I think really affected his psyche as a fighter. Also made the mistake of fighting Leotis Martin right after Quarry in what was described as one of the great heavyweight wars of the 1960s (but on which he was on the losing end). I think after losing those two tough fights in a row just sapped his confidence and dedication, plus he had injury issues. Not that I think he was ever near being championship material, but I think he could've remained a lower top 10 contender for several more years.
