Goodwin show 29th June - some opinions

Post by m1kee50 »

Starting at the start

tickets said 4.15 doors open, we were let in at 6. I know that boxing shows are never really on time but thats just silly. When we then got in it was another delay because someone (i think it was a cameraman) had parked in such a way as to obstruct the ambulance getting in. Almost the only thing that is constant for every show is an ambulance on-site.

Akinlade looked well, v composed, bit overweight.

Coyle's opponent was stopped ludicrously, taking shots on his gloves, moving well. By comparison with the Lomax-Pryce fight he should not have been stopped.

Kris Agyei-Dua vs Dee Mitchell, for some reason neither man could stop spitting, Kris nearly onto front row of ringside and then the refs shoes, Mitchell onto the cameramen. Kris looked like he was going to gob onto the board officials and then thought better of it. Strange.

Lomax-Pryce and Mullender-Boulden were absolutely cracking fights, amazed that both went the distance. Mullender went 8 rounds for the first time at a great pace, never stopped moving. When Boulden celebrated after the bell I genuinely thought he was celebrating lasting the distance, not that he'd won. even his nan wouldnt have thought he won that. Due to mullender fighting him at such short range, every time he was hurt he was able to grab hold, and he did so pretty much once a round. the scoring IMO was spot on, Mullender barely threw a punch in the first so deserved to lose that one (although the one he landed at the death of the first nearly took Bouldens consciousness away from him) but he won the rest of the fight, the ref gave 3 rounds even which was fair enough but Mullender was on top throughout. I'd watch a rematch.

Main event was a bit scrappy, in the sense that Lomax and Pryce landed in spite of their opponents best efforts, Edwards and Ojuderie were just open to being hit. A lively fight but not a war. Edwards the deserved winner.

The reason for the delayed start was that on Friday we received a call from the boxing board saying that we had to delay due to the fact the main doctor could not get there. You will appreciate small hall shows make no money so if we open doors for 1 hours just to let someone into a bar when there is a pub opposite and pay security for that time it is financial madness.

By the way I just spoke to security who confirmed doors opened 5.30 for a 6pm start but the boxing could not start at 6 for the reasons stated so we delayed by 1 1/4 hours in circumstances beyond our control.

Apart from that agree with all other comments. We have received very positive reviews for the standard overall of the show.

I thought it was a very good show Lomax v Pryce and Mullender v Boulden where worth the entrance fee alone thoroughly enjoyed it and I am looking forward to Steve's next show on the 13th July putting on competitive fights on small hall shows isn't easy and Goodwin promotions are doing a fine job of it in the south east

The red mini out the back was the main culprit, it was blocking the entrance for the medical guys, even at the end of the show when I was packing up, that car was still there, no one from the hall had a clue,

There was a cameraman on the balcony who moved very quickly when a BMW got shouted out to get moved - they called out about three cars in total.

Not at all. Wasnt meant like that. I was trying to explain the reason behind the late start and delay. Its been a long tiring weekend :) Roll on 13th July and Commey v Truscott. Hopefully start on time :)

I can see Truscott pulling out of this one.. Both styles can make this a cracker if it happens

it was a cracking show, it was just a bit annoying to get there ahead of time so as to ensure we could sit where we wanted to... as people have said, i dont drink so i wasnt bothered about the bar i just wanted to see the fights. its good that you only get charged for the security from the time they let the public in, thats a good deal. Obviously the Dr has other commitments aswell as the boxing, it just seems a bit odd that the show can be booked for a good few weeks but the Drs availability isnt set in stone.

Good to see Diego Burton back out as well.

The annoying thing is I was only told Friday. Can you imagine what would have happened if the original 13 fights were still on. Would have been a disaster. This is down to the boxing board and/or the doctor who apparently let them down at the last minute. Its not the first time this year this has happened though.

We try to help all boxers and have been asked by Derek Williams to help with Diego which we are doing.

Truscott has just asked for an allocation of ringside tickets and a final eliminator for the commonwealth title and a good payday is not to be sniffed at. He is not pulling out. Gonna be a cracker!

This doesnt help ticket sales :) I communicated with Michael Marsden today. He is not pulling out, is training well and is confident of beating Commey.

Commie looked good when he fought against Hughes, and since then has gone on to pick up another two wins. Problem with African fighters is the records can be patchy.

Richard Commey is signed to us. This is a final eliminator. If he wins this he gets the winner of Derry Mathews v Tommy Coyle. They either fight Commey or run and vacate.

We are not just going to put him on a Matchroom show. We intend promoting the Commonwealth title fight should commey beat Paul in the final eliminator. We are happy to promote the title fight and we have the financial backing to do it.

Commey got the better of Joshua Clottey recently in sparring.

We believe he is the real deal and a future superstar. The Truscott fight will give an indication of whether this is right.
