Gatti Ward - THAT round question

Post by macaca »

When Gatti was on his bike after the knock down and getting tagged, would the referee have been justified in ending the fight there and then and denying us that legendary round? I think there was more than a case for it.

In Round 9 whenever Ward pushes Gatti to the ropes and nails him repeatedly while Jim Lampley is yelling "Stop it Frank, you can stop it anytime"

I don't know that he "should've" stopped it necessarily because then we may very well have been robbed of a great trilogy of fights, but I will say this. I certainly would've stopped it if I were the referee.

I remember reading a report from ringside that said that Buddy McGirt was on the ring apron ready to throw in the towel but must have seen something to convince him not to.
