I thought Murray looked poor for an Olympian who has been pro for four years. Naylor, on the other hand, was one of the best journeymen I have seen for a long, long time. He boxed an excellent fight and if he was a ticket seller his record would be very different.

Agree with Mickey. Joe lacked the spark he had in the amateurs, he hasn't looked special as a pro. I feel sorry for him as it must be hard when you have long periods of inactivity when you are trying to build momentum in your early career. Hope something changes for him and he picks it up, he's a nice fella and undoubtedly has talent.

x2 Murray was far from impressive and Naylor gave it a real go.

Murray saying he was ready for anyone after the fight was mildly amusing. On this evidence alot of the featherweights domestically would beat him pretty easily.

I was keen to see him fight Josh Warrington but Joe is going to be fighting at Super Feather now.

I do get that, but the concern is he hasn't really shown his quality in any of his fights. That said, most of them had been too long after the previous fight. Its why I feel for him...

Well he has had a long layoff, but last night he looked puffed after 4 rounds, his timing was off and tried to land a showstopper to much. Loads to work on, if any of the champs were watching last night they would be wanting a fight with Murray sooner rather than later, as he looked beatable.

Also got the usual thing of 'he looks great in the gym', 'you haven't seen the best yet', 'he'll fight better when the quality goes up'

Well time to prove it I think

Thought Joe looked very ordinary last night, the lay off's clearly don't help him, but wasn't a great performance by him. John seemed to gloss over how much Joe struggled and that really doesn't help him any!! He said afterwards that he's doing superfeather from now on which is a mistake IMO looking at his frame he's clearly a featherweight!! Gasses out after 3/4 rounds too, not great!

Dan Naylor on the other hand, I feel, was a bit hard done by. He can be very awkward to nail cleanly, & is very clever at times. Still has a lot to work on but is getting better all the time & showed that he is better than the tag 'journeyman'!! Had wins away from home, given away a lot of natural size and weight at times, learned his trade the hard way. The lad is the most 'professional' professional I know, eats extremely well, trains like a Trojan, just lacks a bit of belief! I thought 'we' won last night, 1 & 2 to Murray on workrate, 3 even, Dan won 4 5 6, Murray 7 and Dan had the last, so Naylor by a point!!
Got an area title fight in 5 weeks against Ian Bailey, going to be tough as Bailey is as hard as nails but I'm confident that Naylor wins it. Would love fights with Chris Male, rematch with Josh Warrington, Jon Slowey etc etc, Naylor would test all of them, and maybe even turn a few over if given a fair crack!!

On that performance last night Naylor Beats Bailey . Bailey Got beat with ease against Leigh Wood last week , it was a cut in 2nd round but to me that is besides the point , Bailey looked tiny compared with Wood , wouldnt be surprised to see the cut on his Left Eyebrow re open again , its not really long enough to heal properly i dont think.

Points win for Naylor in that i reckon .

He seems to be struggling to shine as a pro, doesn't have the power to excite people and isn't winning fights handily enough to suggest he's going to be anything special. He definitely needs a step up, it's probably coming to make or break time in his pro career.

Last night he looked poor and was moaning about 'the weight had done him' in the corner to Joe Gallagher when he looked to be worn out after 3-4 rounds.

It was Farnell in the corner. Joe G was watching from the other side of the arena...

Ah yeh, slip of the mind as Joe G was there last night and used to train him. Irrelevant to the point I was making anyways.

From what i've seen of Naylor he needs a bit more self belief in himself, I wouldn't of been surprised last night if he'd got a draw. But being the away fighter he was always up against it in the scoring. A couple of the rounds were close and a little bit more from Naylor might of swung them his way. He seemed to respect Murray a bit too much, maybe he needs to lose some of that sportsmanship out of his work and get a bit nasty (in a fair way i mean).

Good luck to him against Bailey

Cheers for all the positive post.

I loved the fight last night. I wish it was a 10-12 even 15 rounder :-) really thought I was getting to him.

I have watched it back thought a draw would of been fair maybe joe by a point.
I just didn't work enough at times.

Murray has skills. Wasn't sure on his fitness considering I work 50 hours a week and boxin is his full time job. Joe is a nice lad who I wish the best to in the future once he mixes his amateur pedigree with a bit of aggression he will be a tuff lad to beat.
I think he is getting caught either running around trying to pick shots like an amateur or just trying to load up and ko. If he mixed it up and come to a happy medium would
Work well for him.
Joe said he needs to move up to super
Feather. I felt he looked like a natural feather but he knows his body best.

As for my career can't wait for bailey next. Going to be tuff.

When I first turned pro I didn't have any ambition. After getting robbed blind oba. Few fights I thought what's the point in even trying. The. After quite a few loses I thought these lads aren't actually that good I am going for it.
Had a couple of decent results. Felt I won te souther area by 2-3 rounds
Comfortably and never got given it.

I have had very few fights at my strongest weight which is
Feather.

Other than selby and maybe Lindsey I think the division is wide open and once I get the bailey win would love at crack at the top lads.

Good luck in the future Danny, as you say working a 50hr week and then having to train and fight isn't easy. plus its hard to find any sponsorship these days.

Good luck in your Southern Area title fight, its a proper old title first fought for in 1936, and alot of the former champs would go on to box for British, Euro and World honours.

Cheers for all the messages lads really appreciate it.

Frankie he is big but made feather so far and I think strength wise he is feather. Liam Walsh can still make super feather and is a lot stronger.how can you say I didn't trouble him when I took rounds off of him and physically pushed him about in later rounds. I didn't think I won but only a round in it. I understand on paper he may have thought he was in for an easy night. But we're you losing rounds to people with 4 wins?? No you was stopping them.

I think he is a massive talent and will go on to win things, I personally think he would be a massive feather and strong at that weight. But I don't know what it's like for him to make t etc. if its dangerous and he is drained obviously he should move up.
Well done on your win amazing performance against a tuff fit strong boxer. You outboxed worked and muscled him.

We will have to see, can only go on what happened in the ring last Friday, and Joe didn't impress that much. If he needs higher grade challenges then his team need to provide it. I think by the years end we will know if Joe can step it up or not. He needs an eliminator for British title, something to get him motivated. Can he really make feather again though?
Ben Jones would be a good one at superfeather, he's on a run at the moment.

I looked up DN's record after the fight as I thought he made Joe look relatively ordinary and was shocked as his record - that's not what I'm used to seeing from a so called "journeyman". Wanted to fight and came with skills and a lot more.

Joe needs activity and maybe, like Joe Selkirk, he really needs to be pushed to find out how good he really is - both him and Selkirk haves undoubted natural ability but they should be doing a job on fighters with losing records no matter what (in Selkirk's case) the opponent does (or doesn't do) - IMHO

But Joe Murray's performance left more questions than answers as it was a competitive bout - and Naylor didn't look like a lad with a losing record. Was impressed with him.
