Damian,

I honestly believe this wont be PPV nor do i believe it needs to be .

Weve had lesser fights as ppv in the past but in the current climate sky arent so keen , if this was ppv it wouldnt look good on sky who said only the top fights would be ppv .

I wouldnt be surprised if it was PPV but it doesnt need to be and i dont believe it would be .
If its PPV its just for money nothing more , the fight itself doesnt need it , thats my view , take it or leave it .
Ill happilly hold my hands up if it proves to be the case that im wrong .[/quo

It's been fairly openly discussed that Froch/Kessler got $2m each for the their recent fight.

Averaging the gate out at £100 per head x 18,000 = £1.8m. Then as discussed there's VAT, venue hire, security, promotion, ticket printing, advertising, staff costs etc etc etc and that's even before we get anywhere near fighter purses.

The bottom line is that Sky will pay a fee and any syndication rights to other countries (inc Denmark where also PPV and HBO) go into the pot, and if you go into PPV you grow that pot even more. To bring 2 big fighters to the table who are both beltholders you aren't going to purse bids, you're going to have to pay them both 'a-side' money - and the only way you can do that, i.e. get Kessler over to the UK is to pay him handsomely, and obviously Froch isn't going to take less.

The Hearns have admitted that without PPV the fight wouldn't have been able to be made, but it's my suspicion that they also have a profit margin on each fight for themselves that they need to be able to hit before they'll try to make a fight too. So that's 2 fighters and 2 promoters (Sauerland too) who want to earn handsomely from a big fight.

If they dont manage the fighter, they dont touch his purse, so their income is totally seperate.

For Froch now, as I've said before, he has maybe 3 or 4 big promotions left in him and he is going to want to absolutely rinse them financially and rightly so. This is his pension.

A fight with Groves on regular Sky would sell out the o2 or MEN if properly priced - Groves vs DeGale did so Froch/Groves certainly would. But the money that would be generated from the (as discussed) less generous than in the past Sky funding / ticket sales etc wouldn't be enough for Froch. Yes if Groves is mandatory and obviously the 'b-side' he will have to take the much smaller share of income. Mayweather and Pacquiao fighters have been getting 10-15% of what Floyd/Manny earn per fight, even Marquez. If it goes to purse bids, i THINK Groves is entitled to 25% but Hearn will want to avoid that if they are going to make the fight and try and do the deal internally.

The problem with this fight is that for , say HBO and most other countries, Groves, at this point , just isn't an attractive opponent. If they can't make Kessler 3 for the end of the year then maybe Froch will go with it, but IMHO Hearn will have to pay him handsomely - and that means PPV in the UK

bottom line is, they couldn't care less what we think - it's about £££££££ - always has been. Fans are not a consideration in boxing.

Anyway it's not worth an argument - what will be will be.
I dont mean to argue either mate , Not at all .

Boxing purses are always well over exaggerated though .

Chisora was reported as getting 200k for Klitschko , so why would Groves get more when you look at that the heavyweight division is the most lucrative division . Ok maybe that figure was misreported , who knows , but in general you find purses are lower than reported .

Reports also suggested Froch got 300k for the Mack fight , would have to assume if that was the case that mack would have maybe got around the 150k mark .

Like you said , not interested in an arguement as its all only hearsay anyway , but i gues we will wait and see .
I would agree with Parsons. You are way wide of the mark for the purses. I think it would sell out the O2 as well.

Listen im not going to argue simple as that , its all pretty futile as in all honesty none of us know the facts , regardless of any claims to do so .

What i will say is theres no way to earn those sorts of purses without ppv , theres no way on this planet froch earned 500k for the mack fight , not when mack would have needed his purse , plus the undercard and the associated costs .

As has been stated by some of you , to get that sort of money it needs ppv .

But overall i still dont believe this will be ppv , if it isnt then it will show the purse is closer to my own estimation , but if its ppv then we will never have any idea as sky dont release the ppv figures , all we will know is it would then be higher than that what i guessed .

How do you know that Hearn didnt take a loss to pay Froch that purse? As has been mentioned plenty of times, Matchroom make most of their money outside of boxing so they can afford to make a loss from time to time if needs must.

I've tended to give Matchroom the benefit of the doubt over the last year or so, but I won't be so well disposed towards them if they make any half decent fight PPV. To me, Froch vs Groves is not PPV worthy.

Let's see.

This is a good match up and it shouldn't be PPV; Froch is a good champion and is not a household name; he has a good following among boxing fans as he has faced excellent opposition; he doesn't 'deserve' massive purses regardless of who he faces though. If he were a household name then he'd pull in bigger purses.

Groves is a dangerous opponent; he is maturing and he is powerful; he hits as hard as anyone in the division; it'll be a good scrap if it comes off and ought to be on regular SKY and not PPV; boxing fans pay enough to follow the sport without holding the feeling/conviction that already wealthy boxers and promoters 'deserve' PPV money; for the most part it's a rip off.

I think Froch deserves PPV view purses as much as a fair few of the people who have been on PPV.

We'll have to a agree to disagree there columbo; if a bout is attractive enough to be PPV then the active participants ought to get their fair share; Froch v just anyone isn't PPV. George is unproven at world level though I think he'll cope well. I'd not shell out for a PPV because I thought that a particular boxer deserved £15 of my money no way. If the card is good enough then OK but the promoters (and fighters) have over cooked that gooses egg for me.

Well, Froch said he'd fight Groves if it was ordered. So there you go. I personally like this fight and you can guarantee if it happens it'll be another PPV that Eddie loves.

I think it'll be close for a few rounds but Froch will grind groves down in the later rounds for a stoppage win.
i do think groves will survive, but lets face it .....only if he can do a derrel......run n hold......cos watching wards success , dosent mean that with no world class experiance...he has any chance of duplicating the S.O.G....n even if he does.....froch wont b out classed like that again......he obviously learened so much from his unanimous loss, that he changed his cobra techniques fully..........unfortunatly mr bute didnt entertain this....and well.....with bad refereeing his corner(butes)may av saved his life,or stopped him ending up like micheal watson......except watson was winning and eubank admits he would of lost but for a last attempted wild uppercut that got micheal.........nt comparing the 2 bouts though....micheal watson was the world champ that never was......bt he would of been a legend in the ring, 4 me he is still a legend 4 the way he handled eubank? any1 agree/disagree?

british boxing loves a high profile domestic.

won't be hard to hype it up and build serious interest.

if it's even fairly competitive, and does well, then degale would also be an option, one day.

if you can make a big event at home, do it. if you can enhance carl's pulling power, then he brings more to negotiations vs overseas fighters.
lil too early in my opinion, but degael dunt even no the facts, i heard him say how froch lost to taylor......groves i can respect bt degael needs to prove himself before talking bout im this, froch aint that , kessler past it......ok kessler may nt b the peaking brute he was, but nt past it by any stupid means.....kessler would end degaels career any day any venue , he'd scare him out of boxing im sure, SO TILL DEGALE FIGHTS ANY1 WORTHY N HARD AS fornicate(LIKE KING A.ABRAHAM) AND SURVIVE. THEN HE NEEDS TO SHOW SOME RESPECT TO THE GREATEST ELITES IN BOXING LIKE MR FROCH HAS ESTABLISHED HIMSELF TO.......THEN SAYING THINGS LIKE"ID END FROCHES CAREER". Losses him fans and respect ......least froch beat taylor in title defence b4 regretably calling calzaghe out......which like it or nt he was in a decent position to say this BUT ONLY CALLED HIM OUT,N DIDNT ONCE SAY HED WIN OR SHOW JOE ANY DISRESPECT........HE SAID"IF JOE WANTS TO GET OUT OF ARM CHAIR AND BACK IN GYM, WE'LL AV AN ALL BRITISH TITLE FIGHT" DEGAEL BETTER AV AN AMAZING CAREER TO REDEEM HIMSELF TO GET ME TO RESPECT HIM SOMEDAY.....TILL THEN STOP THE CLEVER TALK N START THE CLEVER ASCENT , TO THE TOP LOL CAN'T SEE IT WITH SUCH AN AMAZINGLY STACK DIVISION ......ANY1 THINK ANY DIFFRENT? LOVE TO HERE UR OPINION!!

Michael Watson was a little before my time, I never saw him box when he was active.

However, a few years ago I noticed book in the Bargain bucket in a bookshop in York.....The Biggest Fight by Michael Watson.

I'm always on the look-out for a boxing book so I snapped it up - it shouldn't even have been in a bloody bargain bucket in the first place. While reading it I really warmed to the guy and the People's Champion now ranks highly in my favourite boxers list !

Anyway....no disrespect to Nigel Benn, but here's a video of Watson taking care of business in a big tent!

might be off to the SOL Saturday to watch Di Canio's men try and stop Walcott, Giroud, Ozil et al......I think they're up against it on Saturday but we'll see...

I'm pretty sure it's Box Office. Not 100% sure though. It's not as big a fight as Froch vs Kessler, but I'd be surprised if they didn't charge PPV for it.

Always enjoyed Arsenal vs Sunderland at Highbury and Roker and the SOL, never been to the new ground, always entertaining. My lasting memory is not of Phillips, Henry but of the sheer fornicating size, strength and PACE of Martin Keown :o
