Price vs Thompson this weekend.
Can't see a thread about this rematch fight, on Saturday night.
I have the feeling lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice.
Price to stand off, and jab from a distance, opening up later on perhaps?

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
Thompson looked very composed while at the fights last weekend; he also looked in good condition. He is an intelligent man and has come to win. The punch that ended the first contest for him was a bit of a fluke as to where it landed but if it had landed flush on Price' chin the same would have happened. Thompson is a very good counter puncher and has a good chin, he knows he can really rattle Price; who has heavy artillery and seems to have not the very best chins.
I think Thompson will win again, he is the more proven man, Price is a beast in the UK but not ready for a big step up.

I'm almost certain Thompson will win, debating how much to stick on him at the mo. 9/2 for the stoppage is amazing value unless Thompson has been paid to lose.

Well it wouldn't be the first time it's happened in HW boxing if he's paid to lose. But I think Price is heavily overrated, and Thompson underrated.jtourettes wrote:I'm almost certain Thompson will win, debating how much to stick on him at the mo. 9/2 for the stoppage is amazing value unless Thompson has been paid to lose.

I'm really interested in this fight, will tell me a lot about David Price.
I won't be betting on it thats for sure, and if the 9/2 on a Thompson stoppage is legit then that is cracking value, but I'll be hoping Price does it convincingly.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
100/30 on a Thompson win with William Hill. Thompson to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification 9/2 with Boylesport and William Hill. Decent prices considering he KO'd Price in the first fight.
I wont be betting though. I think Price will use his size and box more cautiously this time. Hoping to see if Price can really take a shot or not. Jury is still out on that one.

Going to this one and can't wait. I think Price wins by stoppage in the 2nd half of the fight after a cautious opening but there is clearly the ever present danger of Price getting starched himself. Will be a fascinating contest.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
Good value on the Thompson KO's but I think if I was to bet my money would be on Price. I think he will play it safe and keep Thompson on the end of his jab, will be patient and outbox him for the most part at least. Maybe a late KO, or a clear points victory for Price is my bet
Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
I feel Thompson is too smart to end up on the wrong end of a David Price knockout highlight reel.
That leaves a careful points win as the best case scenario for Price, which would do nothing to expel his chinny reputation.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
The 5/1 on price decision seems decent too, since there's a strong chance he'll box cautiously this time and Thompson is a wily old fox.DMA1987 wrote:I won't be betting on it thats for sure, and if the 9/2 on a Thompson stoppage is legit then that is cracking value, but I'll be hoping Price does it convincingly.

Everyone seems to be picking Thompson to be stopped in the 2nd half. It seems a fair pick. A compassionate British ref might decide enough is enough with Thompson still on his feet but getting pasted.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
Stuck a tenner on a Thompson stoppage at 7/2. I see this as the single most likely outcome and cannot understand why the odds have been stacked against it happening.
By no means is this certain, of course - Lennox might have taught Price how to use his range better and stay out of trouble. But there's no getting away from Price's lack of chin or sustained head movement, nor the fact that Thompson will probably land heavily on him at some point because a) he's a big, wily, experienced fighter and b) Price lacks the defence and mobility of Wlad (whom Thompson was able to outland over 11 rounds in their first fight, let's not forget).
I reckon Price lasts much longer this time, but I just can't see him staying out of the way for 12 rounds, and his chin is seriously poor.

I think Price will ko Thompson I also think the conspiracy theorist will be out in force to pour scorn on his victory.
I hope David can prove his doubters his loss has only helped to give Fury more shit to talk and im bored of his drivel.
Its HW and the cliché one shot ends it either way is Omni present he knows the shot that Thompson will be loading up for and he must find a way to win and I think he will and probably inside 6 rounds.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
9/2 on a Thompson KO is cracking value based on the fact that he is now in shape and that Price aint gona be growing a chin any time soon. Price has a good chance in this obviously, but 9/2 is a big price for how easily he crumbled in the first fight. It was Maccarinelli-esque when he got up on those jelly legs.

Goldenboy & USA are desperate for a H/W champ though, so raising enough capital to ensure Banks remained gun-shy and backed off when Mitchell was seriously hurt.
Price's team might not have the same kind of finances/ motives ...
Or am I being naive?

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
I've backed TT to win @ 100/30 - though I should have gone for TT by KO...I'll probably get on that as well.
Price will be looking to box at a distance, but I can't see that chin holding out for long, especially as TT knows it won't take much to have the big man wobbling like a drunken sailor.
The Jonathan Banks result was a worry though, hopefully they don't have the same mananger.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
It will be sad if Price loses. He seems a good guy with genuine power. To have a pro career about to blossom on the world stage...then to get the rug pulled...pretty hard.
Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
Price does indeed seem a top guy. In the days where most boxers think you have to constantly diss opponents to be entertaining, it's nice to see a guy buck the trend.Ezzard wrote:It will be sad if Price loses. Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
I think a cautious Price will outbox Thompson for the first half of the fight and then land a big right hand and stop him mid to late rounds,
Price despite obvious question marks over his chin does have world class power and has shown once he has hurt someone he knows how to finish them,

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
What worries me is that in the first fight there was moment when Price had TT in the corner. Dug hooks into the ribs and TT just remained calm in the storm. Actually had time to look at Price. It’s easy to imagine a few straight TT shots getting their first.
Price will get hit. And he will also be quite tight in there. He will know how much is riding on this. I hope he wins. Dynamite punchers with suspect whiskers are the most exciting fighters to watch and support. As a fan you get to go on a great journey of ups and downs… Hope David has a massive up tomorrow night.

Re: Price vs Thompson this weekend.
The first time around Price fought too cautious. He tried, I think, to demonstrate that he was more than just a puncher and that he could box against a seasoned professional like Thompson. I think this time around we will see Price as a boxer-puncher, more aggressive than in the first fight. He is planning on landing the big bomb, but I think Thompson is too saavy and has faced far better men in his career than Price. The young Englishman knows everything is riding on this, but he will be I'm afraid still too mechanical when it counts. Thompson, I think will get him inside of five-seven rounds.Ezzard wrote:What worries me is that in the first fight there was moment when Price had TT in the corner. See, although we know there are question marks surrounding DP's chin, I think people are getting a little ahead of themselves with respect to expecting TT to find his chin and put him down.MightyWarrior wrote:I've backed TT to win @ 100/30 - though I should have gone for TT by KO...I'll probably get on that as well.

That didn't even happen in the first fight. TT landed a blow on the left side of DP's head and perforated his eardrum, and having suffered this myself once playing rugby, I can promise you that not only does it hurt, but first comes the loss of balance and all co-ordination which is what we saw with Price. He wasn't hurt when he was stumbling around on the canvas and struggling to stand upright. TT hadn't 'done a number' on his chin and I don't think we ought to suspect DP's chin any more than we did before the first fight. The shot landing was no fluke, but the damage it did was.
Anyone who caught that shot would be susceptible to the same fate. Regardless of your mental toughness or heart to carry on, if your balance is shot you've had it.
DP will try to imitate a Wladimir style jab and keep TT on the end of it. A cautious DP UD or late KO/TKO for me
