Training with bag for beginner

Post by willardx »

I've been a big fight fan for ages and have finally persuaded the missis to let me bolt a bag to the side of the house. I want to use it for a regular light workout and was wonderin if anyone can guide me in getting the most out of sessions. The main purpose is to build strength and stamina and i just cant stomach the posin in gyms. Any advice gladly taken. Cheers

try and focus on technique and actually box the bag as if it is your opponent, dont just try and beat the sh$t out of it cos you will last about 30 secs and probably injure yourself in the process, once you have learnt how to throw punches correctly you can start to mix in a few power punches but for stamina it more important to be busy.good luck.

most fighting gyms arent 'posy' - you'll soon spot the difference between the two.

like the other fella said, dont just stand there and lamp it. use it for footwork too, move round it.

if you can get hold of it theres a couple of back issues of RING where Hopkins talked through some simple training stuff and one issue was bag work.

:TU:
Visit a proper oldskool boxing gym from time to time, get coached, corrected a bit by someone who knows about boxing. Then train at home trying to apply what you've learned. Even if it's just about fitness, learning some technical basics is always a good idea. Otherwise it's all Donald Duck - clumsy, ineffective, even dangerous.

Most importantly you need to remember that technique is what will perfect your progress. Use it for technique rather than punching the shit out of it
