hate to say it but i got £20 on Thompson by KO.

I like Price, but those odds are (4/1) are too good to turn down.

Thompson only ever lost to Wlad, (other than 1 other very early defeat). I still think he has an argument for being the top heavyweight outside the K bros. Although i'd take Haye over him.

This fight is just too early for Price against a more established, top ranked heavyweight. Look at his matchmaking...

that's poor matchmaking. He's jumped from domestic level to world level with nothing in between. Thompson could easily be a world champion, he's a far more worthy fighter of a belt than Povetkin is. Price needed something in between Skelton & Thompson. Someone like Solis, Kevin Johnston or Charr. Perhaps they got suckered into Tony Thompson by misjudging what he had left at 41 years old.

Price has never been past 7 rounds, so that's another unknown.

I tend to agree with that. He's been fed a lot of domestic opposition and some of those arent the best domestic fighters. Two of those in Harrison and Skelton are bordering on being OAP's! *slight exaggeration admittedly* .... Thompson is quite a clever boxer even if he is getting on a bit. He's not the most athletic looking guy or a monstrous puncher but he's got a good boxing brain and in the first fight against Price he was setting Price up for counters. I dont know if he would beat Povetkin or not but it wouldnt be a walkover for Povetkin I dont think. I tend to agree though that if the Klitschko's didnt rule the division he would have a good chance of being a world champion.

Good point, though most of us thought Price would win last time - it was almost inconceivable that Frank Maloney was making a massive mistake with such a valuable commodity - everyone assumed Frank had the inside track and TT had little ambition left....plus TT wasn't considered a puncher....

It's a tough game, but Frank's judgement is going to look really bad if Dave loses again tonight - although if he wins, Frank goes back to top of the class.

I went into William Hills on Friday to see if the Thompson KO, TKO, TD & DQ was still 9/2, which it was. I don't bet on dogs often. I don't like the crowding on the first bend. A lot of times the best dog doesn't actually win. Anyway had a £5 win on a dog because of the name and it won at 11/4. So I have a £18.75 on a Thompson win by KO, TKO, TD & DQ. Still wouldn't mind too much if Price won though.

A little bit of money going on Thompson. Only 3/1 was available last night. Although now you can 100/30 with Victor Chandler. 4/1 on a Thompson win by KO, TKO, TD & DQ now with quite a few bookies.

Didnt Frank have a mini heart attack or something after Price lost the first time?! If he loses again tonight the stress could end up killing him.

Sounds like a humble, intelligent guy.

I'm going to pick Thompson for the upset again. He is a smart fighter and Price is going to fight very cautious this time around. I just see Thompson as the more complete fighter, and he's been in there with world class opposition, tested at the highest level. Price just hasn't fought anyone the caliber of Thompson, and that will be the difference again.

I expect a cagey opening few rounds, and Price bagging most of them. Ultimately Price will gain confidence and wade in again, being caught Thompson.

Thompson in the mid rounds, probably round 7,8.

America craves a new heavyweight star and, in addition to David Price, England has several promising contenders emerging. How do you assess them?

In the US there’s really only Deontay Wilder and Seth Mitchell. You have to give Wilder a slight edge. He’s so physically imposing and has such power in that big right hand.

Over here, I really like (Dereck) Chisora. He’s all heart, comes to fight, leaves everything in the ring. He’s really good for the fans. I’m also an admirer of David Haye. He’s very mobile and athletic yet deceptively strong and powerful for a comparatively small heavyweight.

But that Tyson Fury is a complete f****** joke, man; a sideshow. I don’t believe he’s serious about the sport. He just wants to see how far it can raise his profile before trying to branch off into other things.

He gave it a good go didn't he, did better than I thought he would and almost chinned TT. His chin was better than most thought too, just seemed like his huge size caused him to blow out early.

He can come back from this, he's still got that thunderous punch.

I understand you have to cover up at times but Price had his gloves over his eyes for half the fight. He was getting hit with shots he might have avoided if he was looking at his opponent. Not making excuses, Tony 'the hip-breaker' Thompson showed all the savvy and deserved the win, no doubt at all.

As the fight grew closer I started to fancy Thompson more in this fight. Obviously happy to have won a couple of quid but sorry to have seen Price lose and Frank break down like that.

I want to watch it again and see what happened to Price's stamina. Was it the Thompson body shots that did it? Something just didn't seem right with Price.

I'm not sure where this leaves Price. Tony Thompson is a very good fighter but getting KO'd twice by quite a slow 41 year old man does leave quite a few questions. Maybe Price has found his level...British level. I just don't know .

same here, i like Price, but smart money was on Tiger at those odds.

As for Price stamina, it was the combintion of him gambling on haymakers & been visibly hurt by body shots.

Price has huge power, Thompson looked out hen he went down, his legs went completely relaxed. Price lands that shot on Wlad it would be over. He's going to be an exciting fighter for sure, but guys who can handle his power and get into the mid rounds will always have a great chance against him.

I still think Price KO's Fury early.

I don't think he chins Wlad, no way, has a chance with Fury but Fury has taken a lot of digs and got back up so who knows with that one.

For me, he's the Enzo of Heavyweight boxing, that is the best comparison. Good at British and maybe Euro level, but just chinny as f**k. It's chin or be chinned from here on in for the rest of what career remains for him.

i don't think he beats Wlad, i said if the same shot was on Wlads chin and not Thompson's i'd be a different outcome. Wlads a vastly superior fighter to the version of him that got messed up by Sanders but it's his protection of his chin that improved, not the chin itself.

As for Fury, i don't think he hits hard enough to blast Price out early, but Price certainly hits hard enough to stop a guy who was damn near flattened by an ancient cruiserweight. I'll take Price inside 3.

BTW what's the rules on a standing 8-count in that bout?

I thought it was a bit bullshit myself. Like Froch-Bute, what was the ref playing at? Those 2 examples were stoppages for sure.

Agreed, it was just him trying every trick in the book to help out Price, but he's gone, mentally and physically gone.
