Pricey is still British Champion...maybe he needs to get back on the domestic scene and rebuild. In hindsight, Tony Thompson came far too soon for him and it's clear he has a lot to learn still.
Has the damage been done though? Can he come back and be a force? I think he can but that performance tonight was worrying.

It's a shame, but he got beat twice by the better man. We can come up with tactics this and that, but tactics went out the window the minute he took a few punches. His chin isn't up to it, he was super-tense. there are so many things that need work that it's difficult to see him coming again at world level.

At British level he can still be in some really good fights, it's just whether these 2 defeats have destroyed his confidence and broke his heart, which I get a strong suspicion they have done.

On another note, it was harrowing seeing the interview with Frank Maloney after the fight, I feel for the guy and think he probably should step out of the limelight for a while as he really doesn't look to be in a good place. Really sad to see.

The risk is there, but so is the reward.

If you're any good, you'll make much, much more than that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Price has earned more over the last year and a half than if he stayed in the programme until 34.

And you have fame.
Proper fame.

Price looked so awful last night I can't see a road back for him. You can feed him 2-3 bums and then he can go down the McDermott- Sexton - Skelton - Harrison route again via Williams - Sprott etc and then dip his toes at European level. Confidence is totally gone though. When that goes a lot of fighters become fodder. :bag:

Price will never become fodder, he hits too hard for C class fighters.

Will he ever have the make up to beat B level fighters? Real doubts

Originally I thought Price had Fury's number but now I think it's 50/50. Whoever lands first basically.

Both would land. The difference is that Fury has shown he can cope with being hurt, knows how to survive and despite suspect conditioning in the past has proved he is naturally pretty fit and has savvy. Price being on queer street for me was as much to do with fitness as it was Thompson's blows. Put it this way in a slug fest I'd fancy Fury to bomb out Thompson. As soon as Price is on the back foot he looks done for. Before he fought Thompson I got carried away with Price and thought he looked unstoppable but the truth was he was fighting tomato cans. Skelton and Harrison could barely draw breath. Obviously Team Price got totally carried away to. The jump to Thompson from that is huge.

Thanks for the honesty, there were many who really thought he'd do the business; maybe that's why they are slating him so much now?

I'd dispute that. I would make Fury a big favorite to beat Thompson inside the distance. Anyone trying to build up Thompson is deluded. He exposed Price for sure but outside of that had never really beaten anyone of note and is in shocking condition. The basis of his reputation was taking two tankings off Wlad Klitschko. I'd actually fancy Chisora, Johnson and Cunningham to beat Thompson on points.

Come on; he was in very good shape v Price last night and took his lumps to come back and win. The beatings he took from Klitsko; who else wouldn't Wlad beat easier and faster?

I hope Price does come back and win a world title. A few people (most of whom were American journalists) were just a little bit too smug after last night's events.

And now we do seem to have an awful lot of people saying "I always said he was sh!te anyway". Cracks me up.

They've got more money than most professionals full stop.

If I were Price, I'd be quietly hoping Fury is beaten by Haye in September and then look to have a fight with him (Fury) towards the end of the year, or early 2014 after a rebuild/career-ending fight versus the winner of Towers -vs- Lucas Browne.
Well it's got to be worth your while sticking your hand down someones U-bend and unblocking some giant turd......

The big mistake was taking on Thompson again right away. It's an old story that few fighters come back from a KO loss to beat the guy what kayo'd them in the first place. Jim Coffey, the Rosscommon Giant was the classic example. Knocked out by Frank Moran, he was convinced by others it was a fluke occurance so he fought him again and got stopped again.

Price needs 10 or 15 fights under his belt against something more than stiffs to learn his craft and rebuild his confidence. The big lad looked like a complete novice out there. Whatever he'd been taught seemed to be forgotten once the bell rang. I was shouting for him to use his jab and stay off the ropes, but he couldn't hear me through my PC screen. I thought maybe he'd broken his left hand in the first round. In the 4th round I don't think he landed more than 2 punches. Seconds into the 5th round I was just waiting for Thompson to land a few hard shots that would force the ref to stop it.

I think he could of fought him again but in his first fight back wasnt smart. I dont think he should of fought a complete stiff either but maybe someone like a Dimitrenko would of been a better comeback fight and then see how he got on in that and then have a few more toughish fights like that and then based on how he fared in them then fought Thompson again maybe. However im talking like a years time or something.

He was never more than domestic class, I was amazed more people couldn't see it.

He needs a style similar to Frank Bruno, grab them when they are in close and bully them
with fouls - he will never ever get disqualified in Liverpool, develop a ramrod jab, fight ugly
and dirty and wear them down, what the fornicate was he doing last night prancing around the
ring? It was lunacy.

His guts and taking a rematch with Thompson and his humility has made me a fan - and I never
thought I would ever say that. He needs to get back to the drawing board and get a style
like Frank Bruno to take him further - I look forward to seeing the big fornicator coming back to smash
some heads. :box:

To be fair though he looked very shaky and on the brink of being knocked out again in that aswell! Banks either gassed or took it easy on him. Also Thompson is better fighter than Banks to be fair. Atleast IMO anyway.

Price is not domestic class, he has absolutely annihilated everyone who has faced him at domestic level. Thompson was a step to far they, his team obviously thought thompson was there for the taking but we've seen it over and over again - young, hyped, up and comers getting in with a veteran and getting spanked.

I thought he had improved a lot since the last fight and its clear his power is immense, his punch resistance (body and head) and his stamina seem to be an issue but you can NOT write him off yet look at Wlad. He needs to go back to basics and start fighting with a safety first mentality, picking his shots, time will tell if he can develop the boxing brain needed to fight that style.

If i was thompson i would be looking to fight Mitchell.
