He was never more than domestic class, I was amazed more people couldn't see it.

He needs a style similar to Frank Bruno, grab them when they are in close and bully them
with fouls - he will never ever get disqualified in Liverpool, develop a ramrod jab, fight ugly
and dirty and wear them down, what the eff was he doing last night prancing around the
ring? It was lunacy.

His guts and taking a rematch with Thompson and his humility has made me a fan - and I never
thought I would ever say that. He needs to get back to the drawing board and get a style
like Frank Bruno to take him further - I look forward to seeing the big fornicator coming back to smash
some heads. :box:
Price is not domestic class, he has absolutely annihilated everyone who has faced him at domestic level. Thompson was a step to far they, his team obviously thought thompson was there for the taking but we've seen it over and over again - young, hyped, up and comers getting in with a veteran and getting spanked.

I thought he had improved a lot since the last fight and its clear his power is immense, his punch resistance (body and head) and his stamina seem to be an issue but you can NOT write him off yet look at Wlad. He needs to go back to basics and start fighting with a safety first mentality, picking his shots, time will tell if he can develop the boxing brain needed to fight that style.

If i was thompson i would be looking to fight Mitchell.
His boxing brain isnt that bad though! The problem is that Tony thompson also has a good boxing brain and he also didnt fall apart on the first big punch that landed on him.

He fought very bad tactics he should have been looking to counter rather engage in a shoot out.

We don't know if he is above domestic class because he has yet to beat anyone above it. Thompson was a big step up I do agree. He needs to fight to his size and strength though and in that you are right. I think if he fought with the right style and tactics he would be hard to beat - what he was doing last night - prancing around like Willie Pep - it was like watching a big sandtimer in the ring.

He needs to adopt a clutch and foul method similar to Wlad of Frank Bruno, a ramrod jab - the power - he already has.

He is not finished but he needs to change his strategy.

Think Price needs to work behind the job and be more negative. However, i do worry that he doesn't have the speed of Wlad and will get smashed by over the top shots

He was fighting a smart fight in the first round. The problem though also was Thompson was starting to come forward alot and he was making Price work which I think contributed to Price gassing. Also the body shots didnt help!

Well heres a question then - do you think any version of price including a future version could have beaten tony thompson last night? Because my concern is that he couldnt.

Probably not going on that! Maybe if he could keep it completely at range and operate purely as a counter puncher. Im not sure he has the right mentality to box purely on the back foot though.

I think so, get the smallest ring possible, develop a ramrod jab, teach him to grab and to rabbit
punch and foul Thompson - lean him on the ropes - tire him out, be flatfooted and use a high
guard and grab and hold - ugly, but Price would stop him in my opinion.

Look at the size of that damn ring last night - what were they playing at?

Yeah but Price is huge with long arms. I dont know how effective he would be fighting on the inside. Not just that but his punch resistance isnt the best and when you box on the inside you're going to have to take shots.

The situation is worse than we thought. We all thought he was chinny, now we know he can't take it to the body either, has terrible stamina and a questionable heart!

Wlad has long arms, you can develop that style for Price and it would be very effective, he is as strong as a bin lorry, he could do great damage to Thompson inside if he was taught how to in-fight properly - and Wlad - who has been really successful at it - is no Gene Fullmer in the chin department.

Jim Coffey, the Rosscommon Giant was the classic example. Knocked out by Frank Moran, he was convinced by others it was a fluke occurance so he fought him again and got stopped again.

Price needs 10 or 15 fights under his belt against something more than stiffs to learn his craft and rebuild his confidence. The big lad looked like a complete novice out there. Whatever he'd been taught seemed to be forgotten once the bell rang. I was shouting for him to use his jab and stay off the ropes, but he couldn't hear me through my PC screen. I thought maybe he'd broken his left hand in the first round. In the 4th round I don't think he landed more than 2 punches. Seconds into the 5th round I was just waiting for Thompson to land a few hard shots that would force the ref to stop it.

Seth Mitchell did ok taking on the Banks who Ko'd him in 2 rounds.
Some question the legitamacy of that fight. Even then, Banks didn't seem like much of a threat. He should've been able to stretch Mitchell out pretty much the same way he did the first time around. Did he run out of gas or just lose interest? Neither one is top ten material.

Agree with you mickey lad.

People keep mentioning Wlad, saying how wlad got knocked out and how he changed. I'm afraid I just don't see it here, Wlad is a one-off in many respects, most other people who get found out early don't go on to great things like he did and I don't see Price doing it either, I think anyone mentioning Wlad is clutching at straws now.

Price was never destined to be world champion, they are born not trained.

Anyone else think price was given ample time by the referee last night, 7f it yad been thompson taking a battering like that the fight would have been stopped at least 10 secs earlier.

More than he ought to have given that's for sure. The punishment he took without giving anything at all in return warranted the referee to dive in and call the fight there and then as far as I'm concerned. He just didn't want to be the guy who would call time on Price in his big 'redemption' fight in front of his home fans, so gave him every opportunity (and then some) to find his senses

Price fans should be a little disappointed he didn't get a British stoppage after flooring Tony. Terry O'Connor wouldn't have let us down like that.

Tiny, in fact.
I'd dispute that. I would make Fury a big favorite to beat Thompson inside the distance. Anyone trying to build up Thompson is deluded. He exposed Price for sure but outside of that had never really beaten anyone of note and is in shocking condition. The basis of his reputation was taking two tankings off Wlad Klitschko. I'd actually fancy Chisora, Johnson and Cunningham to beat Thompson on points.
Come on; he was in very good shape v Price last night and took his lumps to come back and win. The beatings he took from Klitsko; who else wouldn't Wlad beat easier and faster?
There'as no way Thompson was in 'very good shape'. He looked awful. Was even heavier than for the their first fight. Outlasting Price who looked petrified and gassed after 2 rounds is not the basis to judge Thompsons fitness. He's got savvy and experience and punches back. That's about all he needed.
The fact outside of taking two beatings of off Wlad he hadn't beaten anyone to suggest he was anything other than a run of the mill heavyweight. The big wins on his record are Maurice Harris and Chazz Witherspoon. Also factoring in Thompsons age and where he is in his career the picture looks depressing to the point of hopeless for Price.

He needed to keep it at range. The fact is he got into a trade off in the second (was caught with uppercuts even before the KD) By the third he was standing in the pocket because he was knackered. By the fifth he was stopped.

But i do worry he hasn't got the speed to work the fight from the outside
