Spud

Post by Parson Cross »

Let me start by saying this is a serious thread and not one for people to indulge in the usual personal insult tirade.
Spud has been struggling for the last 10 months with an undiagnosed medical problem, but he has now been told he has got Parkinsons Disease.
There are a lot of old time posters on here who I thought might want to pass on their best wishes and rather than muck around via PM if you want to pass on a message of support do it here.
He still reads this site but no longer posts.
He's dealing with it in the usual Spud manner with a fair dose of humour.
Like him or loathe him he's a character and I wouldn't wish ill health on anyone.
Please keep it sensible (within reason) or else we might have to get the thread removed !
Al the best Spud - I hear your right hand jab is working a treat.

Never spoken/posted with the guy, but my wife has just be diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. I can truly empathise with what his family will be going through. I genuinely wish him and his family all the best.

Spud,

Really sorry to hear that you have been so poorly. I've always enjoyed your contribution to boxrec over the years; your passion and enthusiasm is infectious, and your knowledge of the sport grreatly appreciated. I hope you get the appropriate treatment and continue to enjoy your role with the hayemaker team, which must be a very interesting position, I think.

Newport Daz,

I am really sorry to hear the news of your wife. I hope she is as comfortable as she can possibly be and that you both get plenty of support and love from your friends and family. I've always enjoyed your posts too!!

This is a message the ugly f****er has just sent me and asked me to post :

Hello Boxrec,

Thank you for the kind words, but, I am not the one for sympathy thats not meant to be ungrateful but there's far too many people a lot worse off than me - as someone text me in this morning, I am going to kick Parkinsons right in the b*llocks, now I know what I have I can deal with it.

Thank f*ck I have boxing, at first when no one knew what was happening there was a bit of frustration but now people know, the humour is coming out - its the only way to deal with things like this, dont be shy tell people what you have and crack on, in some ways people have found it harder dealing with what I have than me myself.

Anyhow lets move on - I am luckier than a lot of people, I have a truly fantastic job and work with an amazing professional team at Hayemaker, and my wife and son know exactly how to deal with me and thats the same as ever!!!

Thank you again - and oh by the way - you are all w*nkers!!!!

Regards

Mr Woolatt is a great guy I've been priviliged to know for - well it must be a decade now. He's made a significant contribution to a number of fight careers - and if I understand anything about him - this won't stop him continuing to do so. Thinking about you and yours Spud...

I have had a number of run ins with Spud on the internet, but have always found him a pleasure in person.

The guy is passionate and is a fighter, so I will lay good money on him getting the better of the disease.

If you are reading Spud, Rocket and Lightweight send their regards.

As for Newport Daz, that is horrific. Just make sure you cherish every moment you have left together mate

Like many I've had the odd verbal spat on here with Spud.

However, what can't be denied is that he is a character and like the rest of us absolutely loves this crazy sport.

I've seen a little first hand how hard he works as a Whip on some of the North east shows and he deserves respect for that.

Keep slugging Spud - you massive tosspot.

Used to spar with spud during the old doghouse days nearly a decade ago. Glad to see he's meeting this illness with the same fighting spirit. Good luck spud.

I have also sparred a few rounds with Spud in the doghouse days and had to be seperated before our handbags did any damage. I know you have stated that you don't do sympathy well Spud, but i am genuinely sorry to hear of your news and wish you all the best.

Newport Daz, i am really sorry to hear of your news and my heart goes out to you and your family. Make the most of it because it's not about the time we have, but what we do whilst we are here and the legacy we leave. My thoughts are with you mate.

I'm glad Spud hasn't shyed away from meeting it head on. I remember reading how Dave Darts said his father became depressed & frightened by the diagnosis and took his own life.

Parkinson's shouldn't ever be something to be embarrassed about. It happens and sometimes people get a bit shaky - so just take the Mickey out of it and move on.

If anyone can do that with a pinch of salt, then Spud certainly can.

Worrying news in sure, but more importantly - well done for bringing it out there mr Spud.

Daz - words fail me, and offer no relief to your situation.
