Does David Price need to be more ruthless in his approach?
Does David Price need to be more ruthless in his approach?
I just rewatched the fight a little while ago and I watched it without the commentary on. One thing that stuck out aside from the things that people already mentioned is that he would very rarely hold! If you watch Wladimir fighting, if he's in any danger he'll immediately grab. You dont see that with Price. Im not saying he should become an ultra negative boxer and do exactly what Wladimir does but I think he needs to hold a bit more than he does at the moment. He was just standing there letting Thompson tee off on him with his gloves held high. That's not a good idea whatever weight you are, let alone heavyweight! What do you chaps think?

Grabbing on is ruthless?

Im not saying it is ruthless in the typical sense of the word but ok bending the rules a little bit more.Horse wrote:Grabbing on is ruthless?

To be a world class fighter youve got to be able to throw a decent punch, not saying Price cant throw a punch but hasnt got the tools at the moment. Will he ever? No I do not think Price could ever get to a level to beat a decent boxer in the top 10. Euro level? again I think Price is not good enough to fight for a euro title. So what about British? Well he's below Haye, Fury, and possibly Chisora, so that puts him 4th, can he beat Rogan? Sprott? To be honest at this stage I would quite easily say Audley Harrison could fight him once more and maybe do a number (if he didnt shit himself).
You know I would maybe take a fight with Darren Corbett for a confidence boost and see whats left.

Fury and Chisora are not bums, they are both top 15 heavyweights.desperados wrote:He's certainly not 'well below' Chisora & Fury, they are bums. At least Price can punch.

are you competing for some kind of understatement of the year contest? He looked about the same level a fat old south american club fighter ranked well outside the top 100. It was embarrassing. Since then, Avila has been stopped inside a round. Chisoras best win is Sam Sexton. He's lost 4 since stepping up from British level, he's a fat, slow, out-of-shape bum with no power.Horse wrote:I did see it. He wasn't at his best, but he won.desperados wrote:i'll take that as a no.

I think instead of spending time with Lewis, he would be better served spending time with Wlad and learning how Wlad overcame his stamina based failings.

Think this would do him the world of good, in heavyweight terms he is still young enough to regroup and come again, Pricey always comes across as a nice man, and friendly, and I'm not saying he needs to change his personality, but think before fights he could do with going away in camp, and get angry and try and get a nasty streak.
Re: Does David Price need to be more ruthless in his approach?
In a sense, yes. You're illegitimately shutting down the opponent's ability to fight on the inside and daring the ref to do something about it, knowing that they probably won't.Horse wrote:Grabbing on is ruthless?

Ruthless is probably the wrong terminology. Crafty or ringwise would probably more apt?
But yeah Price could do with being more "ruthless" instead of toothless!

This ^ is spot on wlad was just as bad as Price years ago I don't know how ES changed things but wlad had about 3 rounds of stamina in the early dayspolecateddy wrote:I think instead of spending time with Lewis, he would be better served spending time with Wlad and learning how Wlad overcame his stamina based failings.

Yeah I admit that it was the wrong wording. He needs to get more shrewd though. The Insider wrote:Ruthless is probably the wrong terminology. Crafty or ringwise would probably more apt?

With Wladimir pushing 40 you all don't seriously want another giant heavyweight hiding his glass chin behind a long jab for another decade's woth of stultifying heavyweight boxing?
Please tell me you're not all seriously asking for that?

Price could have good fights at domestic level with Lewison, towers, sprott and cornish.
as for euro level....doubtful
sprott might just outpoint him

He needs to utilise his strengths which are his size - he is incredibly strong, he needs to fight
like Bruno under George Francis - grab, hold, maul, throw rabbit punches - he was prancing around
last week trying to be as mobile as Pernell Whittaker - and the next thing is he is knackered after
4 rounds. He needs to change the way he fights totally. He has a massive punch and if he can
learn how to cut off the ring, maul them on the inside and throw short clubbing punches then
he is going to be more effective - and for Christs sakes - if he is going to be fighting in Liverpool
- find a smaller ring so he is not hunting his opponent down in a massive ring.

Chisora - the bum who comfortably beat Helenius on his own track and went after Vitali Klitschko for 12 rounds without ever being in a hint of trouble.
