Do shows finish too late

I've just read Steve Lillis's fronline diary in BM. He blames London Transport for fans not being able to get home after the Froch-Kessler because the last train to London left at 00.17. Surely the onus is on the promoter to make sure the show is scheduled to finish before public transport stops running. I've given up attending many shows because of the excessive delays in between bouts. Yhis is not a new problem by the way. Many a time I've had to leave Wembley or the RAH before the finish in order to catch the last train.

On the flipside I would say public transport finishes too early in the vast majority of the UK. However, I agree with you that promoters should consider public transport times to prevent fans leaving early and missing the main event.

I dont believe shows finish too late although it is the public transport issue that prevented me from going to Froch vs Kessler , i had heard lots of people say it had been an issue at 02 in the past and considering none of our group wanted to drive as it would mean that person couldnt have a few drinks .

If you've been to so many fights you know when it starts you know when it ends plus a bit extra in case it over runs and if you can't get a train book in somewhere or make other plans.
SIMPLES - and I'm a so called dumb Northerner.
Or should Eddie has sent a courtesy car round for you, and been waiting outside to get you home ?

There were some extra busses laid on after the fight but people need to plan ahead.I got an email from the o2 saying that the fight will proberly be on after the tube and I had options of the clipper boat service or a pre booked bus back from the o2.I went for the bus and got back in to London fine.People are too quick to blame other people when a little bit of pre planning sorts the problem out.

No worries mate,Eddie was on twitter saying ringwalks were 11.15 so any one who knows boxing knows that if it goes 12 you are going to miss the tube so why take the risk especialy as the information on how to get back from the fight would of been sent to anyone who got a ticket though the o2.People who would of seen the email and thought fornicate it could finish early and I could get the tube if not I will find away back.those are the type of people who then moan when they are stranderd at the o2 and blame everyone they could think off.

I have often wondered why main events are on so late. Lets face it boxing is not like mma, most fans turn up for 2-3 fights. Why don't we get the main event at 10. Then those that want to can go out on the piss afterwards can. Leaving at midnight is a pain.

The Champions League final could have gone to penalties. Plus the Danes will have had a say and the rest of Europe doesn't like to get to bed as early as the rest of us.

They're extending the running time of the tube to how it was during London 2012 at weekends in a year or so, IIRC.

That should sort the issue for London.

I do go for the boxing but often after leaving the event I often fancy going onto a pub with mates for some post fight analysis. When you get onto a busy train at 12 your options are limited.

To clarify --- What i said was that nobody wanted to drive as they couldnt then have a drink , at no point did i blame a promoter like you tried to claim ,nor did i say anyone wanted to get steaming , i dont drive yet (got my test on 7th aug) so that counted me out and similar applies to another guy who would have come too , so that left us relying on the others , with no transport it was a non runner , as like i said before , i had heard people had found issues with trains etc after shows at 02 .

But instead you wanted to be a cock and try to act high almighty when in actual fact you was miles off the point , making assumptions or reading initial posts incorrectly does you no favours pal .

Occasionally its far easier to just hold your hands up and say Ok i got it wrong .

(Clocks went forward that night so it was 2am about 2 mins after I got back to the car)

Got home at 6am; kids up at 7:30am.

The British transport system's effing shite. That's the problem. I once staggered out of a blues club in Paris at 3am and managed to catch a Metro. I was totally bladdered and got home safe and in time.

North of the river in London it's pretty good. Night buses (although not as good/fast as the tube) do a great job of getting you home.

I think you have to accept oor public transport isn't geared up for late nights in the main, certainly train and tube and plan around it. Either nominated driver or make night of it and get hotel etc
