I was interested in this - I thought, I'd pay 15 - 20 quid for it and I thought I would get it, but when I looked at the price of it today I was like

I must have watched that original broadcast and it was one of the most horrible prolonged one-sided beatings I have ever seen. Even moreso when you consider who was on the end of it.

If it was to appear on my TV screen right now, I would switch it off.

Why anybody would pay money to watch that "fight" is beyond me.

I remember watching this too, one of the first fights I remember watching.

I would have sworn blind until my dying day that it was on ITV however, guess I was wrong.

I would be interested in it for historical purposes, I would like to see the build up of it primarly, seeing how many people would probably still think "if Tyson got into shape he would beat Klitchsko" what was the vibe before the Holmes fight.

Ali did a great show vs Spinks in the rematch, I would be interested to know what was the feel before the Holmes fight. I have asked the older members of the forum before, and generally it was "nobody gave Ali a chance", I really cannot see that being the case.

One of the only fights I can remember a "great" being given absolutely no chance was Leonard vs Hagler. But on paper, most people surely gave Ali a better chance than Leonard, Hagler was an established all time great and Leonard hadn't fought in two years - whereas Ali was the champ two years before.

I would just like to watch it for that purpose, not really worth over £100.00 pound. The seller must be delighted with the interest in it.

Stu, I didn't give Ali a chance in this matchup either ..... but I was hoping he would prove me wrong.

But I could never have imagined just how uncompetitive it would be.

Holmes was expected to win comfortably but, because it was Ali and he did look to have whipped himself into shape in the weeks leading up to the fight, I think you will find that all previews had a little get out jail clause tagged on just in case the greatest heavyweight ever came up with the biggest miracle since Moses parted the Red Sea.

On the night it was all proved to have been a mirage. Once the bell sounded Ali was the beatee in a one-sided beating and later it was found that he had lost the weight as much through the use of diuretics as by training.

As much as I like Holmes, I find that fight hard to watch. Obviously the bloke who is willing to shell out 100 quid doesn't feel that way.

I expected Holmes to win easy. What dissapointed me was that Holmes took it easy with him. I wanted Larry to knock him out within a few rounds. Larry could have done, but he showed him too much leniency and respect.

Strange how it goes, but Holmes v Ali was the first fight i can remember watching, i'm sure it was shown on a sunday morning. I must have been only 7 or 8

I've only seen it once since, didn't really like seeing Ali getting beat up.
But how many of us don't mind watching when Tyson knocked out Holmes?

Holmes obviously didn't enjoy his work in there, but peversely probably gave him a worse beating by holding back than he would have done by knocking him out.

Good Documentry on Holmes called Beyond the Glory, in it you can see he has so much respect for Ali, when he first sparred with Ali, Holmes got a black eye, wouldn't let anyone try and get it to go down because he was so proud of getting it off Ali.

Horrible fight and one of the sadest you'll ever see. I could never watch it again - too painful. Ali had NOTHING - the only people who gave him a chance that night were non boxing fans.
Bad night for Angelo Dundee too: he should have pulled Ali out long before he did.

I kept a copy of Time magazine that week - front cover "The Greatest is gone" over a picture of Ali sitting on his stool, eyes closed.
