Yeah that one was fun. Arthur was the perfect example of a guy with "beaten fighter syndrome" - getting destroyed yet smiling and trying to pretend he was ok when he got hurt or knocked down. You could tell he just couldn't believe what was happening!Loftgroov wrote:Gomez vs Arthur was good.
I liked watching the Scots faces in the crowd afterwards.
Greatest fight in a British ring you have seen.
Firstly I would say McClellan was winning the first 4/5 rounds then Benn took over. If you see the scorecards it was very close. He took what McClellan had and gave it back with interest! And whats this about the punches not casuing the stoppage? What was it fresh air? McClellan took a beating and this is what eventually caused the brain damage. If you read Benn's book he states the reason he won that fight was because when he was knocked out the ring he heard the commentators and reporters saying 'we knew this would happen, Benn has been destroyed etc' and after this Benn said nothing would stop him. Benn was never the same after this fight though. McClellan said some horrible things before this fight though about killing people etc. Benn also tried to help afetr but was told where to go by the family and again some disgusting things were said. When the bills added up the family came back to Benn who told them where to go. Horrible situation really.
The scorecards were bullshit. They were heavily biased in favour of Benn. You should watch that fight again. Remember Benn was down in rounds 1 and 8. Two 10-8 rounds for McClellan which meant that out of the remaining 7 rounds that were scored, judge Franz Marti gave 6 of these rounds to Benn - what a complete joke! Come on, the judges were biased in favour of Benn and so was the referee (more than anybody). He let Benn away with far too much - hitting after the bell and rabbit punching regularly.Arsenal wrote:Firstly I would say McClellan was winning the first 4/5 rounds then Benn took over. At the end of the day Benn was too strong for McClellen. He beat him into submission. Regardless who was winning on points the history books will always say Benn won. To be honest I had it very close at the time. McClellen certainly wasn't winning by more than a couple of rounds. But Benn would definately have won the last 2 rounds. At the end of the day McClellen wasn't has strong has Benn.
