Goodwin alongside Amoo-Bediako intend to stage the bout with the winner of the Mathews-Crolla bout providing Commey wins as the event will have to go to purse bids. “Matchroom will have to have deep pockets if they want to stage that one” said Amoo-Bediako.

Commey has been sparring the likes of Carl Frampton in preparation since coming to the UK and is the biggest sensation to come out of Africa since Azumah Nelson. Having UK backing with the SW/Goodwin team has rejuvenated boxing interest in Ghana. What is unusual is that Commey is the home promoted fighter and has had perfect preparation whereas normally the Ghanain boxers are given short notice jobs as the opponent.

The fight is scheduled over 12 rounds but Commey promises it will not go the distance. “Truscott will do very well if he survives 8 rounds and I will congratulate him if he makes it that far. He is a good boxer and I am looking forward to the challenge. I really hope Derry Mathews beats Tommy Coyle as I want to beat him as his manager some time ago questioned my credentials on social media and I want to knock his boy out for that.”

That has got to be one of the weirdest fights I have watched.. Fight was close up until the stoppage but very disappointed in Truscott looked far better in previous fights and the stoppage didn't look like much..Commey seems like a cracking character and his style will lead to some entertaining fights. Not much answered on how good he is wouldn't be putting him in with Derry Mathews yet needs a couple of sterner tests I think.. A promoter dancing with a fighter in the ring very funny wouldn't give up your day job ha

I thought he boxed well, a very busy fighter . will be a handful but a few more sterner tests wouldent do any harm. He is up sparring burns im led to beleive ... which will be good for his game.

From what he is saying he will be next out in September hopefully something will come up before then.. To be fair to truscott york hall was like an oven last night, body punch took him out. Commey is use to that heat if he lives and trains in ghana that was just a normal day at the office. I would like to see them fight again. Matthews v Commey would be a great fight in york hall

WTF was Commey's cornerman doing just after the ref stopped the fight. Go to 38:30 on the video to see what i mean. He does a flyer then tries to stand up as if he meant it, kind of like tripping over a paving slab and doing a little jog after.

Fair enough I maybe didn't explain properly I meant as in I still don't know how good he is from both fights. I expected a different Truscott and a totally different fight.. Like I said he is a character and that's what boxing needs is more people like him.. Love the dancing it's crazy and the fact his cornerman is just as crazy makes it more fun to watch.. Is he up here in Scotland sparring with Ricky soon??

He spars with Ricky from 29th. Be very interesting. The whole Commey team are totally crazy in a nice way. Great to promote them and we have big financial backing behind him. Come on Derry Mathews a trip to York Hall is on offer for a very good payday! Victim number 17.

and that's probably an understatement !, the temperature in London around fight time was low to mid 20's, and it was certainly quite a bit hotter inside the York hall than outside. With the lights above the ring and everything else concerned it could have easily been mid 30's inside that ring.

TBF I'm not sure the video on youtube does either man justice, of course with no tv viewing for the fight there's only one (close up) camera angle and it's difficult to get the full picture compared to being there. That body shot doesn't look much on the video, but it was a cracker when you saw it in person.
Commey's head movement surprised me, a lot better than I expected, his workrate really is phenomenal, and there's no doubt he can certainly crack a bit. On the negative side of things, he can be quite wasteful with his punches, very wild at times, and prone to the odd stupid mistake (like completely turning his back at one point).
I'd certainly be very interested in seeing him vs Matthews in what I make to be a real 50/50 fight.

Also boxrec has Commey up to fight again in less than 2 months time, can either of the Goodwin's shed any light as to what sort of level of opponent we're looking at ?, giving that it's coming very shortly after the toughest test of his career to date.

It looks like Derry Mathews people are not keen on Commey and want to squeeze a voluntary in before facing Commey within the six month period.

The September fight we think will be an interim fight possibly for IBF Intrnational title. We will look at options when we return from holiday next week.

You can't blame "Team Matthews" for wanting a voluntary, he deserves it after the last 12 months.

Why do you say they are not keen, Derry is hardly the kind of fighter to go into hiding ?
