quick question re: Ratings
quick question re: Ratings
How come some boxers do not have ratings on Boxrec - for example David Haye is currently an "active" boxer but is not included in the Heavyweight ratings
Also I've noticed Richard Towers also does not have a rating
what is the reason for this ?
Also I've noticed Richard Towers also does not have a rating

Re: quick question re: Ratings
i think that lose their rating if they dont fight with in a year of their last contest mate
Re: quick question re: Ratings
That's correct. You need to have been 'active' during the last 12 months to have a rating.maley1984 wrote:i think that lose their rating if they dont fight with in a year of their last contest mate
Re: quick question re: Ratings
i do believe tho some of the ratings r shocking lads who lost one fight with 10+wins against unbeaten fighters r ranked below lads 6-0 who have just beaten journeymen and not fought any1 with a positive record. ive noticed this in a few divisions
Re: quick question re: Ratings
This is something that makes no sense to me.. A good example is the Super Fearherweight rankings.. Ronnie Clark has almost an identical record than Anthony Cacacae although Ronnie has fought the better opponents yet Anthony is ranked above him it makes no sense whatsoever. There is a few in the other divisions but I would be here all daymaley1984 wrote:i do believe tho some of the ratings r shocking lads who lost one fight with 10+wins against unbeaten fighters r ranked below lads 6-0 who have just beaten journeymen and not fought any1 with a positive record. ive noticed this in a few divisions

Human reasoning is not involved in our ratings system. There will be some odd looking ratings but there is a consistent formula without any bias. There are advantages and disadvantages to using formulas.

Re: quick question re: Ratings
Its some times a little rediculas when u look at ratings look at me for example Im righted at light middle even though I had a southern area tilte fight at lightweight and welterweight and the bulk of my fights have been below 10.7. as for the rating system never understud it.
Re: quick question re: Ratings
You have a rating at 'Welterweight' because that's the most recent weight division which you fought in. The ratings take in to account the weight division of your most recent fight. It can sometimes take a while to refresh the ratings (due to various reasons, including delayed receipt of the official fight report to update the result on your record), therefore you might see a delay of a few days in some instances. Furthermore, there is the odd error which we have to manually correct once notified.philipgill wrote:Its some times a little rediculas when u look at ratings look at me for example Im righted at light middle even though I had a southern area tilte fight at lightweight and welterweight and the bulk of my fights have been below 10.7. as for the rating system never understud it.

The Law I have 2 questions. What is your favourite flavour of Ben and Jerry's ice cream? and Why do bad things happen to good people?
Re: quick question re: Ratings
super feather was one division i was on about troy james has a loss in pf(which i didnt take much notice of 3 round shoot out) and a points loss and english title level to unbeaten flannigan and his below both the lads mentioned abovedaviddee wrote:This is something that makes no sense to me.. also in feather joe murray ranked above josh warrington(english champ who beat an unbeaten lad for the title who murray dodged) wen murray has been inactive and not had a real a win notice like josh. also a lad with 4 wins, a lad 7-1 and 9-22 is above chris male 12-1 who lost at english level to josh
Re: quick question re: Ratings
My answer to the first question is Cookie Dough. There are various opinions as to why bad things happen to good people. Religious people see it as a 'test' from god and you will ultimately gain good deeds for being patient during tough times.jameswilson wrote:The Law I have 2 questions. The link above explains how the ratings work. An undefeated fighter can potentially be ranked below a fighter with numerous losses. It takes in to account as to who you have faced in your career (i.e. whether they had a high rating) and it does not look at a record at face value. For example, Chisora is ranked 23rd in the world despite losing 4 of his last 6 fights because he has faced tough competition. In contrast Lucas Brown is ranked 31st in the world despite having an undefeated record of 16 wins with 14 KOs and undefeated heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov is ranked 25th in the world despite having 18 wins with 18 KOs.

I understand that and have looked at how you rank fighters but how can a fighter who is 7(3)-0-0 be ranked above a fighter who is 8(4)-0-2 both undefeated but the one with7 had fought the same fighter twice and lower level of opposition.. It makes no sense to me whatsoever...

Re: quick question re: Ratings
What you deem 'lower level of opposition' is not the same as what the formula would deem as 'lower level of opposition'. There is no human reasoning in a formula. The 'lower level of opposition' may have had higher ratings than the other undefeated fighter's opposition. Furthermore facing the 'same' fighter can also have a different effect on your rating because this 'same' fighter will not have had the same rating in both fights. The formula is consistently used and there is no bias but it's merely a mathematical formula, as a result it can sometimes contradict human reasoning. At the same time human reasoning can be biased and affected by external pressure (e.g. threats, bribery or criticism, etc)

Thanks for responding. I agree with what your saying and with Rankings it's hard but these rankings could well be the most credible in the uk and people really pay attention to them.. With the BBofBC not publishing ranking it would be good to have an accurate rating system that the British fight fans can see..
Re: quick question re: Ratings
Does that link take you to the vid of Terry Jones and Michael Palin trying to explain Boxrec's rating system? Quite amusing really. Warning: Some consumption of spam involved.

Rankings, shmankings, who has ever given a toss about rankings?
They are subjective and meaningless, like Zimbabwean election results or the rankings that Indian restaurants give to the "spiciness" of their curries.
Jalfrezi 4 chillies? Madrass 5???
madness.

I'm sure everyone likes to see rankings... Fighters like to see where they are and would help them want to push on and up the rankings.. Fans like to see where there fav fighter is and how they are moving along.. The rankings might not be good and a true reflection but surely then we say that as fight fans and get the powers that be to sort a proper more fairer Ranking system if that's needed..

I have never ever had a conversation with a boxing fan about rankings. Also, even if you had some kind of "fair" ranking system, what does that give you?
Would fights be decided by rankings? the champ only fight the number 1 ranked fighter? Would the 6th have to fight the 8th and so on?
If rankings don't decide who fights who, then why bother?
Fans want to see their fighter in grudge matches and exciting, interesting fights.

My point isn't who fights who!!! And Fans want to see title fights its been proven time and time again!!! Why do you think there is so many titles.. Casual fans like a bit of bad blood and as you say grudge matches.. If you are number 8 in the Rankings there is 7 Guys ahead of you that can be fought to move forward for titles !! Instead of fighting a journeyman for a British Masters or some sort of 2nd rate belt... I'm a big fan of boxing and want to see prospects fighting prospects.. Champions fighting champions good example is Billy Joe Saunders he's fighting live opposition in most of his fights.. Other fighters take fights they are pretty much guaranteed to win as this moves them up the rankings.. Boxing isn't a mainstream sport and will never be unless there is less of the Mis match fights..
