Wasn't there a chap who boxed under the nickname "The Dutch Sonny Liston"? I can't remember his actual name, so I don't think he lived up to his moniker.

They had a guy called Tuur if memory serves he won a version of a world title at Super-Feather in the 90s and I think Raymond Joval was dutch as well and he won the IBO Middleweight title and possibly another version but not one of the big ones. Both were decent fighters, they produce decent women boxers as well Rijker springs to mind as possibly the best.

Audley fought for WBF back in the day against Dutch sunny Liston.
I remember watching it with my mate and cracking up how BBC and John inverdale were trying to hoodwink the viewer into thinking it was s world title fight.

They have 1 quite promising kid at the moment, the most famous however must be The Dutch Destroyer Lucia Rijker!
Re: Why is ther no Dutch boxers ...?
There was a bloke that boxed out of London, but not heard from him for a long time. Mitchell Baulker I think off the top of my head!

They had a few good light heavyweights in the 1980's - Rudi Koopmans, Pedro Van Ramsdonk,
and Alex Blanchard. Here is the dutch super fight of the 1980s for the EBU light heavyweight title.

Oh yes, and Fast Eddy Smulders - he was light heavyweight champion and a gentleman called Don Diego Poeder.
Re: Why is ther no Dutch boxers ...?

Rob Nieuwenhuizen, tall and gangly...fought Nigel Benn in Benn's third fight. He ended with a record of 4-2 with 4 ko's.
Re: Why is ther no Dutch boxers ...?
Stephen Danyo currently 2-0. Talented Dutch amateur but pro career seems to have been frozen by a contract dispute.

Eddy Smulders.....good fighter
Re: Why is ther no Dutch boxers ...?
Fast Eddy Smulders was good, he was a very hard puncher. I think he ended up in prison for a bit. He was originally a kick boxer.

When I think of Dutch boxing I'm reminded of a heavyweight father and son that fought each other quite recently too. The names escape me but they were often found at small hall shows in Germany.
