Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
Looks like the Board have failed in their attempt to dismiss the case some licence holders and Luxembourg have brought against them. Not sure what happens next?

Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
Hopefully this ends soon and Luxembourg are banned from sanctioning fights in the UK.
Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
Why did the BBBofC do this to themselves?
Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
Well that's not going to happen is it - EU free trade laws etc.....expe wrote:Hopefully this ends soon and Luxembourg are banned from sanctioning fights in the UK.
The only answer is for the BBBofC to work with the promoters, mediate any issues and come to sensible solutions so they don't feel the need to go to an overseas governing body.

Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
Does anyone know what the Lux Board hope to ultimately achieve if their case is proven? Do they want the Board out? Are they seeking finacial compensation? Or are they just looking for the Board to ammend their rules etc? Or all 3?
Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
fornicate the BBBofC, it's about time somebody rattled the cage of this cartel. No sympathy for them at all.

If the BBBoC board was democratically elected by by its licence holders then I would agree with you, but its isnt, so I dont!expe wrote:Hopefully this ends soon and Luxembourg are banned from sanctioning fights in the UK.

If Luxembourg wins would white collar fights start to be accepted on boxrec? Or is that jumping too far ahead?

Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
Presumably there would be little separating bouts over-seen by someone like the Luxembourg board and something like World White Collar Boxing Association?

Is sacrificing independence really the way forward for the Board?slapbangwhallop wrote:If the BBBoC board was democratically elected by by its licence holders then I would agree with you, but its isnt, so I dont!expe wrote:Hopefully this ends soon and Luxembourg are banned from sanctioning fights in the UK.

But if the licence holders vote to see who sits on the board/gets what position, what's to stop all matchroom/FW affiliated licence holders voting together to get "their man" in? We moan about a monopoly on TV dates, god forbid they then regulate the sport too. It's a difficult one for sure.

so that alternative is that the Board are completely unaccountable and the people that the work in boxing have no say on how its run or how their licence fees are spent. The Insider wrote:But if the licence holders vote to see who sits on the board/gets what position, what's to stop all matchroom/FW affiliated licence holders voting together to get "their man" in? I'm not disagreeing, we should have a say without doubt. I'm debating whether the licence holders should vote to see who sits on the Board as you mentioned earlier. Not sure I'd be comfortable with Barry Hearn as El presidente, Eddie as General secretary, Jonny Wisch as Director/Steward etc etc. Surely there would be a huge conflict of intrest.slapbangwhallop wrote:so that alternative is that the Board are completely unaccountable and the people that the work in boxing have no say on how its run or how their licence fees are spent. The Insider wrote:But if the licence holders vote to see who sits on the board/gets what position, what's to stop all matchroom/FW affiliated licence holders voting together to get "their man" in? Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
I agree but I cant see that happening because there are so many licence holders around the country that even if FW or MR got loads of "seconds licences" for their staff there would be a big backlash against them. The Insider wrote:I'm not disagreeing, we should have a say without doubt. Personally I think "those on high" need to have enough trust in the licence holders to do the right thing by boxing.

Exactly, the board need to be work independently toward the interest of the entire sport not just helping the few (mates) that way would be totally open to corruption all it would take would be a bit of rhetoric from chairman Hearn or Wazza etc promising to look after every licence holder in the land who swears in to their golden cause and votes for their people would come flying in.

Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
To get back on track for a moment I don't think Luxembourg care who sits on the Board to be quite honest. I think they just want the right to work in this country unhindered by the BBBofC which is why they have taken them to Court. When the Board "intimidated" it's members into not working with the LuxBox outfit they may have contravined a few EU laws (restraint of trade, freedom of service, competition etc) along the way too. In a way the Board have bought this on themselves by trying to pull rank and bully its members. Quite simply I think they have been found out that they are not the big untouchable organisation they have led us to believe all these years. If the Board lose this case I honestly can't see where they go as it will seriously depreciated the ammount of shows they sanction each year as it will allow the GBA and LuxBox amongst other to host shows (as they are doing now) when and where they want. It'll be a very interesting and important year for British Boxing I think.

Re: Game on. Luxembourg vs BBBofC
very interesting indeed. Its the same in Ireland with the BUI. I've been trying to put a show on their for 6 months now and its simply doesnt stack up - a sell out doesnt even break even - and its because of the costs and charges of the BUI. Pretty frustrating. The Insider wrote:To get back on track for a moment I don't think Luxembourg care who sits on the Board to be quite honest. Whether you like the BBBofC procedures or not their safety record is excellent and they make sure the brutal and dangerous sport is regulated and fights are sanctioned and matched correctly with some excellent experienced well trained referees who have the fighters safety paramount.
All it takes is takes is a few poorly organised tin pot events that lead to fatalities or life threatening injuries and the sport will be banned altogether on these shores.

You can't take that from the Board, they Excell in this field and are second to non. It's not just the refs either, the doctors (at least one per show) are trained in the treatment of unconscious patients too.Final round wrote:Whether you like the BBBofC procedures or not their safety record is excellent and they make sure the brutal and dangerous sport is regulated and fights are sanctioned and matched correctly with some excellent experienced well trained referees who have the fighters safety paramount.

Have LuxBox or GBA any lower standards when it comes to H&S?Final round wrote:Whether you like the BBBofC procedures or not their safety record is excellent and they make sure the brutal and dangerous sport is regulated and fights are sanctioned and matched correctly with some excellent experienced well trained referees who have the fighters safety paramount.

I know British fans love to trot out "oh say what you want about the BBBoC but they are ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to looking after fighters".
Personally I think thats all hype. All EBU registered sanctioning bodies have near identical procedures and critieria when it comes to fighters safety. Actually the BBBoC have shown themselves up as being totally outdated recent when it comes to the issue of scans and anomoilies with scans.
