My thoughts on BXNTN so far

Due to my ESPN subscription coming to an end, and because there were so many fights I was missing, I eventually decided to take the plunge and subscribe to BXNTN. I've not regretted it so far, because I've enjoyed having the option of seeing more boxing.
BUT ............. what really annoys me , and takes away from the efforts of those behind the scenes , is the totally biased comments , views and opinions on the 'home' fighters. They are insulting our intelligence .
Steve Bunce is a decent enough guy when he's not behind a microphone ,but for goodness sake , somebody tell him to calm down and get a grip. " SCOTTS CORNERMEN WERE TO BLAME FOR THEIR FIGHTER GETTING COUNTED OUT ", being one recent example. And its perfectly clear that the commentators know not to 'bite the hand that feeds them' . When was the last time a FW boxer was criticised ?

In short , BXNTN has to become more professional.

overall, i like it but Bunce shouldent be presenting he should be the "Expert" not the main anchor as his style is all wrong ...

If the job of the guys in the corner is to be propping up the bar whilst their man is fighting then fair enough, they had no role to play in that ending last night. But if their job is to provide advice to their fighter from the corner, then unless they were screaming at him to get up, at around the count of six or seven, they are culpable. I say "unless" because I didn't see what the corner were up to - perhaps they were indeed urging Malik to get up, for all I know. The general point Bunce was making was right. If fighters are not going to start rising to their feet until the ref says "nine", this will happen an awful lot. Every now and then, this happens. Sometimes, fighters seem to do it deliberately, to give them an excuse, but sometimes it happens due to genuine bad timing on the part of the fighter. Nathan Cleverley made a good observation - Malik shouldn't have given the referee the opportunity to count him out whilst rising.

Scott got up like a man who didn't want too. Bunce could see the corner and maybe noticed they were doing fornicate all when their fighter was letting it slip away..

Why does it have to become less biased and "more professional?"

I cant imagine anything less professional than a promoter criticising his own fighters on his own TV station.

Are you telling me that when I'm knocked down I have to look to my corner or listen to my corner before I decide I'm getting up ? So , if that is generally accepted, then the referee should go over to the corner and count at them , not at the fighter !!! I'm sorry , don't agree .

Point 2

It is unprofessional to simply refuse EVER , to pass even negative comments on boxers from a particular stable, when the viewing public knows otherwise. Its like having one particular football team controlling SKY SPORTS football coverage. You know the idea , ' We got beat 4-0 but the strips were nice and the fans continued to support us .' (Sadly a bit like Newcastle United over the last 40 years , I'm sorry to say)

That is the problem with BXNTN , they are tied to one promoter/manager. SKY SPORTS are very similar ,but to be honest, using their RINGSIDE programme as an example ( they continually discuss/mention fights on BXNTN) they are not as biased. But , I'm still keeping my BXNTN subscription because I want to see the fights they are showing.

It is well worth it's money; I prefer the way it is to over done and overly slick presentation but we're all different. I like Bunce and most of his ways, (what are they showing next week?)

I had 3 concerns with allegedly.

1. Lack of domestic shows. This looks like it has now been sorted with the new promoters deal but I would like to see a timetable up until the end of the year. They've been together a month now and Hatton still has not attempted to put a show on.

2. Undercard fights now being shown. Self proclaimed home of boxing. A deep card last night but instead of showing live action they replayed Haye-Chisora for the millionth time. Inexcusable for me.

3. HD. Find it very difficult to watch the standard definition stuff when everything else I have is in HD.

Overall I'm getting value for money and I'm happy enough with direction they are going in. 2 of my 3 issues have been sorted or appear to be in the process. It's a work in progress but its getting better and better.

I think if your paying for the service, you should definitely have automatic access to the online channel.

Their model is not that of every single other broadcaster, whom allow it.

Yes, he was a bit casual about it; he looked really good up to then as well. His vocal cornerman had more than enough venom for both of them though.

Regarding HD, the switch is coming, but remember they've held the same subscription price for almost two years. The big cheeses at BN will be working on a way of increasing the price whilst making it look value for money and the introduction of HD will be a part of that. It may tie in with the Mayweather / Canelo show.

I share the peeve about the lack of undercard coverage. Yes Parson we shouldn't moan as the channel is a godsend for us fans but it would be good if we could get more undercard action. I imagine the broadcast costs per hour are astronomical, but then again its called "the home of boxing".

Lack of televised domestic shows - lets hope for more, it is downright crap at the moment. All those big UK promoters tied to BN and there's only one domestic show every blue moon at the moment.

The agreement with other promoters was very recent and it may take a little more time than a month to get everything sorted for a decent promotion; if a show was announced and then fell through there would be a thread on here within seconds calling the promoter and the channel everything from amateur to idiot to corrupt.

We've had promoters themselves come out and say "that was a poor performance by the kid, we'll get him in the gym and work on what we saw here tonight" . That's hardly unprofessional and is the sort of thing that maybe Bunce should be saying.

Maybe something like:
"I think highly of Buglioni, I really do, the Wise Guy is an extremely talented prospect but his defensive work really needs a look at before his team talk about title fights. Get that sorted and Frank will move on to the next and who knows from that"

It's not ripping into a fighter but it is criticising something about them.
