Dereck Chisora mandatory challenger for the European title

Post by chad »

Dereck Chisora has been installed as the mandatory challenger to European champion Kubrat Pulev in the wake of his victory over Malik Scott.

He is set to return at London's Copper Box on September 21 although the Pulev fight is considered unlikely to happen, with the unbeaten Bulgarian thought more likely to vacate the belt instead in favour of a more lucrative option.

“Kubrat for the European title would be nice and he’s going to get knocked out or bring me another unbeaten Yank to spank in Deontay Wilder,” Chisora said in a press statement. “I’m back in business and ready for whatever comes my way from Frank. Whoever he puts in front of me I’m destroying, just like Scott, they’re going down.”

Pulev will be installed as IBF #1 or will be chasing the fight to make him IBF #1 rather than take this one. Once he is #1 he will sit on his ranking taking easy fights to tick over until he can get his chance against Wladimir.

If Pulev relinquishes the belt Chisora could well fight Harrison for a easy payday. It all depends who offers Harrison more money, Chisora or Fury for the 28th September Manc bill?

If Harrison has the opportunity to fight either who would he chose. Its a ko in the first round for either so its a collateral damage fight for him, who hits harder? Chisora? so fight Hughie in Manc and take a easy beating and walk away once more.

I can't believe we are still talking about Audley Harrison, getting paid, to be a boxer!!

I doubt chisora would fight harrison, Audley needs to beat someone remotely decent before stepping into the ring with anyone of chisoras level.

Why wouldn't Chisora fight Harrison. It would be an easy fight for Chisora for a reputable belt and keep him back on a winning track.

However, I wouldn't mind a rematch with Helenius either.

Are we talking about Chisora fighting Harrison for the european title or the WBO inter-continental or whatever the hell it is? Surely Harrison wouldnt be able to fight for the european title when he's had his ass handed to him a number of times in a relatively short time period!

I think we're at the point now where there's zero credibility (for anyone with ambition) in fighting Audley.

Audley is now a stepping stone fighter for those on the up he is beneath chisoras level and a fight with him would really be the last squeeze of the orange and based entirely on name recognition and not talent.

I'm surprised he hasn't been made WBO mandatory.

Who, Del Boy, or Audley? Isn't Del a bit too much of a threat to be ranked by the WBO? I would steer him away from Pulev, who will make mincemeat of him. He's tailor-made for Pulev.

I’m a big fan of Del Boy but he doesn’t want to go anywhere near Pulev, if there’s one man who can break the Klitschko’s monopoly it’s this man, his ability to judge range is fantastic.

I agree. I think Pulev is the business, and though I wish he were a bit younger, I think he's the man for the next few years, Klitschkos aside. I think he has a better chance than anyone against either of them, also. I'd like to see Del fight Povetkin; it'd be a war.

The Audley fight wouldnt be for a belt its mentioned as keep warm fight for chisora. Chisora under performs against opponents he doesnt consider a threat so i think he will be aiming at the decent names - Pulev, Thompson, Wilder, Helenius, Mitchell, Adamek, Arreola, maybe even Price - would all be good names for him to go after.

The reality is Chisora isnt going to be interested in the EBU belt unless it has a big named opponent attached to it.

Seth Mitchell or Jonathan Banks would be good tests for Chisora. Or a return with Hellenius.

I would bet that if you asked Chisora who he would like to fight it would be Banks, Mitchell or Wilder. I think he would beat them all too.
