A little early to speculate. There are a few stories doing the rounds but nothing 100% so it would be improper to post them yet.jonny wrote:What has happened ?
Heard about this, this morning and thought I must have my wires crossed but as the hours rolled by it transpires it's true. A quiet lad, never any trouble and never complained about anything. A thoroughly likeable chap and consummate Pro. A tragic loss to boxing. RIP Billy.

I've seen Billy box; he was a tough nut and am sure his record is deceiving, hope he's at peace RIP

Billy is the twin brother of Ernie smith, correct? I believe Ernie took his own life, and now Billy too.... RIP

Re: RIP Billy Smith
shocker! saw billy smith fight a number of times and he was always value for money. one of his best fights for me was when he fought lenny daws, at the excel i think....he gave as good as he got in that one . a hard hard fight. some people say the journeymen dont try , but every time i saw billy smith fight. he gave a good account of himself, and of course he never recieved half the wins he should have.
sad news indeed.

I saw Mr Smith box Michael Lomax at the York Hall, and like others have said he was very capable and tough. Sad news.
Re: RIP Billy Smith
RIP billy....amazing to think him and ernie had 322 fights between must of been tough as old boots.
Re: RIP Billy Smith
There was a fantastic interview with Billy in Boxing News a while ago; he seemed a very decent man, very cut up about his brother.
Re: RIP Billy Smith
One of my favourite journeymen, always gave it a go and looked to give the crowd something to watch and the prospect something to think about rather than just cover up and wait for the loss. Sad

What was Billy's best win / best fight? I saw he beat a couple of prospects and also won the midlands title.
Brother Ernie also beat then big prospect George Hillyard

Baz Carey (not the one where the lights went off!) He was in the gym a lot then and it showed. Cracking fight.reggaereggae wrote:What was Billy's best win / best fight? I saw he beat a couple of prospects and also won the midlands title.
