Taylor had him over too, all those years ago.

I think Groves is too open and Froch's stamina is fantastic so those late rounds are the most interesting for me.

For a ginger face, Groves can certainly whack. Question is over his chin and what he will do when froch puts the pressure on him relentlessley.

Great fight, really looking forward to it. I`d like to see Chunky Degale fight Martin Murray at Super Middle and the winner get`s the winner of Froch v Groves.

Still can't believe Matchroom have made this fight so hats off to them. As for the fight itself, it intriguing to say the least and I predict an upset. I fancy Groves late stoppage/points. I think gingys speed and movement will really frustrate Froch and I also think Carl's power isn't what it once was (or perhaps it is but the higher calibre he has faced the better their punch resistance). I don't think Froch will outbox Groves and his only hope is a stoppage. Great fight though.

those saying that Groves has even a chance of outboxing Froch over 12 should bear in mind he has neither the athleticism nor the in-ring IQ of an Andre Ward, and in my opinion that is the levl he'd need to attain. i don't think Groves has the footwork, the technical defensive solidity, or the concentration, to pull that off.

doing a stylistic number on an inexperienced, naive Degale, and on Froch, are totally different things.

I'd expect Froch to have him out of there by 9.

Not to mention the fact that this so-called tactical masterclass was "only" a narrow points win, by the slimmest of margins.

Fair play to Carl for giving the new generation a shot at the titles, pity Calzaghe didn't have a similar attitude :shame:

I was at the York Hall when Froch hit Magee with an uppercut that led to him going down like he'd been shot. He then cut Dodson in half with a wicked body shot and put Tatevosyan over with a brutal shot, so he actually has plenty of history in this regard. It's only since he's been campaigning at true world level that he's been going to points regularly.

And that was my point about levels earlier - Carl had a few one-punch KOs on his resume prior to ascending to elite level. What we don't know yet about George yet is whether he can carry that KO power up to world level - plenty of fighters have looked like destroyers at a certain level only to find they can't keep the momentum up. Not many Randall Baileys and Julian Jacksons in this world...

Groves can hit Carl as clean as he wants. He's not going to stop him. Ever.

I suppose its hard to say just how much i think Froch will win without sounding like i'm writing someone off

So to clarify, i'm not writing Groves off, i just think Froch will destroy him. :TU:

PPV apparently..

Which is odd as there is now no problem needing PPV money to entice George Groves over

Me neither mate.

Perhaps they were at the last Groves amateur fight where Travis Dickinson stopped him in the first round. Or were in the gym when Froch or Callum dropped him. Or friends of Kenny Anderson who floored him - or even the little shake-ups by Conteras or Paul Smith were enough to give them that idea.

Hey im a Froch fan myself. The level of opposition he has fought over the years have been top notch and thats why I really admire him as a fight. Hey George got an iron jaw? No he hasnt but theres a lot of very good fighters who you could say are somewhat suspect around the whiskers and yet still achive things. I think the Anderson fight is a little unfair as firstly George was still very raw at that stage in his career and secondly he came about to stop Anderson! The Smith analogy also is a bit silly to me as he got caught with a big shot at the end of the round. He didnt actually go down from it though did he and against he flattened Smith in the very next round. I think Froch will knock Groves out in the second half of the fight at some stage but at the same token I think it will be a competitive fight up until that stage.

Let's not forget aswell that Froch struggled in some of his fights before he got to world level! I remember him getting wobbled by an old past his best Robin Reid and he was also getting tagged a lot against Dodson before stopping him with the body shot. Even in the Magee fight he didnt have it all his own way. It's very easy to pick flaws in Groves but you have to be objective about it aswell.

I thought it was all about levels? I clearly stated he doesn't put people over at the top, which he hasn't. What do Magee, Dodson and Tatevosyan prove regarding my point?

You were pushing for the Calzaghe fight despite Bessey Beating Carl in the Aba's and Carl going life and death with Magee and Adamu...

And that's exactly why Groves will have problems - Carl has walked through bigger punchers to get his own off.

One heavy shot lands and .....

And I like Groves by return, picked him against Degale and everyone he's fought to date - but his propensity to get wobbled could spell doom in this one.

I think it should be fun (whilst it lasts).

I agree about Groves punch resistance. That will probably be his downfall. I think he has the boxing ability to make it a competitive fight whilst it lasts though.

Show me where you clearly stated that? I've quoted you directly and unless I've inadvertently missed it you didn't add any caveat with regards to your statement only applying "at the top".

He was close to the Froch camp at the time of the DeGale fight, though!

That's from a completely separate post of yours - it's not even in the same post, let alone the same sentence!

Your post in full read:
SNG wrote:I'm not criticising him for the Bute fight, it was a great performance but watching it does suggest to me that he isn't a massive puncher, I'd say it was more of a cumulative effect of his punches that stopped Bute, and he has no history of regularly putting people over or hurting them either. If forced to pick I'd pick Froch to stop Groves late, but having seen Groves fight I think he has the tools to beat Froch if he fights the right game plan. You're right to say he has no top wins, but I can only go off what I have seen and what I've seen makes me think he's a far more capable fighter than he resume would suggest. I think this is a good fight, and I think it'll be tight till it ends.
I can only apologise for falling short of Sherlock Holmes and deducing that when you said "people" you actually didn't mean "people", but actually meant only world-class opponents on the basis that in an earlier separate post you'd alluded to this.
