Seems a bit odd and Kevin Mitchell is on the undercard.
Anthony Joshua at the 02???!!!!!!!
Anthony Joshua at the 02???!!!!!!!
Carpe Diem (on 5th October) - surely he won't sell it out (he's headlining!!!!) or will they close off half the arena? I would have preferred him to start out at a smaller venue - going down the Audley route?

Re: Anthony Joshua at the 02???!!!!!!!
Lee Selby is on there too.
Re: Anthony Joshua at the 02???!!!!!!!
He's "headlining" but it'll be like the Luke Campbell thing won't it? Name at the top of the poster but the bill will also be working off the other bigger names/fights on there. I don't think it means he's going down the Audley route. But quite a clever ploy from Eddie imo.

The most important thing is getting him out regularly. I hope he doesn't settle into 4/5 fights a year from the off.
Should be looking to get out 8 times a year given its likely he will be knocking people over with ease from the start.

Luke sold most of the tickets and was headlining on every sense. It's only us lot who preferred the better fights further down the bill.winkveron wrote:He's "headlining" but it'll be like the Luke Campbell thing won't it? I hope they don't put him in with the usual imports that everyone fights atm
id go for some US guys just to make things at least a little bit interesting in his novice years
Richard Dawson would be a fun first fight just to show the difference between an Olympian and that cricket bloke
then maybe Kenny Lemos, jamal woods, dorsett barnwell, tyaab beale, yohan banks, skipp scott

Hearn said at the press conference Joshua will fight 4 times between now and the end of the year and they will look to get him out 8 times next year.
Like people say he will be the final fight of the night but for us lot we will probably be more interested with some of the other fights down the bill like Selby v Walsh and some others that will be added later. Hearn mentioned the Sheffield Brook bill as being another bill he will be on so he obviously won't be headlining every show.

I like it. Fighters who actually fight, you don't see a lot of them these days, even at the start of careers.jameswilson wrote:Hearn said at the press conference Joshua will fight 4 times between now and the end of the year and they will look to get him out 8 times next year.

No. Maybe the York Hall. He blew is chance headlining here when getting poleaxed each time he stepped up.expe wrote:He would be the most obvious name to headline to me.mickey1975 wrote:I would have thought Mitchell is the most obvious name for the undercard!MacTavish wrote:Carpe Diem (on 5th October) - surely he won't sell it out (he's headlining!!!!) or will they close off half the arena? Re: Anthony Joshua at the 02???!!!!!!!
think the undercard itself will help to sell the event .. its only just over 20,000 and i think selby. mitchell and a possible Campbell on the bill would fill that.... ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Mitchell will do 20,000 now? He did a lot less against Katsidis in his back yard when he was at the peak of his popularity.ajwesty13 wrote:think the undercard itself will help to sell the event .. its only just over 20,000 and i think selby. mitchell and a possible Campbell on the bill would fill that....

ops nope mitchell wouldnt fill the O2 on his own (the full stop after selby is a bit misleading) selby, mitchell and a possible campbell should help to fill up the 20,000. :)

I don't think Selby sells, Luke can sell well, in Hull... Doubt he adds more than a thousand to the attendance in London. To bang out the O2 you need a huge fight, hence the top tier being shut and lower tier good seats going for £40. The same seats were £100 for the Froch card.ajwesty13 wrote:mickey1975 wrote:Mitchell will do 20,000 now? I totally understand what you say mickey and none are really big fights and Joshua being the headliner is a bit strange ... however still leaning towards the fact that the Olympic boxers are still on the wave of games and people would pay money to see joshua campbell with the added bonus of selby (think hes fans base is growing) and mitchell who maybe attract some of his fans back but doesnt have a bad following agreed not massive though....mickey1975 wrote: I don't think Selby sells, Luke can sell well, in Hull... have they said they are shutting the top tier off then?

It's listed as sold out, which is not true. Cheapest start at forty for all lower tier. Floor seats are 60 and Ringside 100. Its cheap to be honest at such a big venue.ajwesty13 wrote:I totally understand what you say mickey and none are really big fights and Joshua being the headliner is a bit strange ... however still leaning towards the fact that the Olympic boxers are still on the wave of games and people would pay money to see joshua campbell with the added bonus of selby (think hes fans base is growing) and mitchell who maybe attract some of his fans back but doesnt have a bad following agreed not massive though....mickey1975 wrote: I don't think Selby sells, Luke can sell well, in Hull... I think Eddie Hearn said in the press conference that they were just selling tickets in the 'lower bowl' - which would mean a capacity of c.10,000, and if they sold out they'd open up the top bit.

Price is fair enough really for the matches ... do agree though that it is a bigger venue for the size of the fights.... but maybe there trying to roll out as Joshua as the next big thing... but tbh if i was a betting man and had to put my money on a boxing an Olympian to go the furthest then my money would be on Campbell.. even though his fight was a bit of a none starter...
PS i am sure once Selby starts moving up his fan base will become pretty healthy... and will headline not to far in the to distant future... been a fan of him and his brother Andrew..

I think that's exactly what they are trying to do with Josh. It is very prestigious for him to turn pro at The O2 at the top of the bill. Gives it that 'event' feel.
Re: Anthony Joshua at the 02???!!!!!!!
There are very good fights on the bill if I was in London I would 100% go Camacho v Conquest is a cracking fight and that probably won't even make tv same for Ekundayo v Foot.
