How far back do we go?

Post by Ezzard »

What is the first fight you ever attended? And the first you watched on TV?

Who has got the oldest experience?

The first fight I remember seeing on TV was Ali-Spinks II. Didn't know too much about it. Just knew Ali was on TV commercials for beef burgers. And people were getting all excited about him winning the fight.

First pro fight I went to was 1985 Tony Willis v Paul Chance for The British lightweight title in Dudley.

First fight on TV was Colin Jones V Milton McCrory.

First Pro fight was Paul Hodkinson V Marcus Villasana II, I actually travelled to that show in the same van with Villasana as I had blagged my way to the fight ;;-) .

I think the first live card had Amos Johnson against a local guy at the old Akron Armory in the mid 60s. Hard to recall the first televised fight because my dad watched pretty much all televised sports and there was a lot of boxing on TV in the late 50's and early 60's.

Strangely enough the first fight that I remember vividly was Tyson-Douglas. I was about 4 or 5 years old at the time. I remember it mainly because was at my aunt's house and all the adults were talking about it and Douglas was on tv having a parade in his honor, and him being from my home state it was doubly enormous.

First fight I ever attended live, I would say was the very card I was on myself. Not too shabby of a card, with Mickey Bey, Michael Finney, and other high profile prospects. That was boxing though. First live fight card I ever seen though was an mma amateur card in 2004 in Celina, Ohio.

TV: I don remember clearly. I think Troy Dorsey was involved. I remember watching Tracy Harris Patterson fighting on Wide World of Sports.

Live: NH card on http://boxrec.com/date_search.php?yyyy=1993&mm=04&dd=17

Or this card: http://boxrec.com/date_search.php?yyyy=1991&mm=04&dd=05

I remember the hometown fighter was Jason Fiske and the card took place in April. However, I think he won via first round KO, which makes me think the latter.

Roberto Duran vs Esteban DeJesus II.

I started to follow the sport religiously in '78. It was the Ali vs Leon Spinks II fight. It was a great fight program:
Jorge Lujan vs Alberto Davila
Danny Lopez vs Juan Domingo Malvarez
Mate Parlov vs ???
Mike Rossman vs Victor Galindez I
Ali vs Leon Spinks II

Undercards like these don't come any more.
