You've a point there columbo but the best days of Junior were a while away when Frankie boxed him; I can imagine that Brook has had strong spars with Witter for years, a few times a week for years; when Junior was chasing a title chance and after he was a champ. I understand that sparring is not a fight but think that over the years as Witter got older and Brook learned his tricks then Brook overtook him in some respects. If Frankie were to box Senchenko after Brook then there would be a straight (ish) form guide; Brook has been a pro longer but Frankie had a much longer and decorated amateur career.columbo wrote:Im pretty sure Witter in terms of straight up ability is better than any of the guys you named there.TJ77 wrote:Gavin is unproven too no?
N'dou, Hatton, Jones, in fact anyone Kell's fought in the last 3 years are all more proven fighters than Gavin or Denton.
I rate Funtime he could really do something at World level one day.IMO
Kell got an injury that robbed him of this chance.
Believe it or don't that's your call to make he is a decent kid who has had poo luck .
Yes he has been flavour of the month and had loads of exposure, plaudits and no one is more frustrated at the lack of fruit from all that as Kell.
Boxing people proper knowledgeable people rate him and have stuck with him would they do that if he was tossing it off or bottling it they would know long before you or I and would expose it.
Like they did when Frankie was not living the life he got exposed for his own good sorted his life out and is looking good again but people wouldn't waste their time watching him waste his obvious talent.
Would it be any different for any other fighter I hope not its a tough enough game.
You wouldn't choose a boxing career go through blood sweat and tears literally year on year beat everyone you had too on your way to the top and bottle it.
He was robbed by injury and yes the chasing pack are closing and yes his time is ticking that's life but it's not his doing he is in this position.
Boxers don't scare easily especially one's with Kells ability and the fact is he loves it fighting the limelight the lot he didn't throw it away it was just pulled a bit further out of reach.
You asked why people jump to his defence its because life can be shite but if you keep trying when everyone's slagging you and the right minded people see that they will stick with you and rightly so IMO.
Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?

No I agree he was. Saying that though, Ndou was past his best aswell when he fought Brook.palooka wrote:You've a point there columbo but the best days of Junior were a while away when Frankie boxed him; I can imagine that Brook has had strong spars with Witter for years, a few times a week for years; when Junior was chasing a title chance and after he was a champ. Yet again people miss the whole point and just pick holes.
Yes Jones is average but he is more proven than gavin so has to rate better.
Yes N'dou was past his best but is proven better than gavin.
Even though gavin may beat them both.
Kell is lambasted for not proving his level .
Yet were gonna make wild assumption s on Gavins ability and set it in stone.
I am bored of this I cant be anymore respect full and diplomatic and argue my opinion banging your head to quote DMA

Yes, the Hatton fight was sold well but a lot of those have been lost now judging by the last two attendances at the Arena and then them packing him off to Hull. As for the mandatory position, what good is it if you're not going to fight for it? I would love to see them box and my money would be on Gavin. If you have a problem with that fine. Gavin was the first fight of the live broadcast, his third bout. I would say he sold 600. Gavin is now a double champion and Kell no further on, achievement wise, from that very night...
In mickeys world Frankie should be a hall-of-famer after beating Vassell.
Do you think Brook should have boxed with a fractured foot? Do you not think he will fight for the title? Jackiewicz and Jones had world rankings when Kell boxed them. I guess Jennings will have had a WBO ranking as he was a bunny boxer. Coincidentally that's the only organisation that ranks Gavin except the WBC who rank him at no.31. Senchenko has a world ranking. Can't seem to find any of Frankie's opponents. But perhaps Horse's rankings matter most on here.

The truth is Junior is a 38 year old light-welter. He hasn't had a stoppage in 5 years which suggests that he didn't carry his power up to welter.

I thought both won well. But from memory, Junior really shone at times and dropped him a lot harder than anyone else I recall doing. He did come back into it late on iirc.

Re: Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?
You got to see it as this for Kell
16 fights (4 & 6 rounders)
17 - 20 (British Title)
21 - 23 (Standard Bunny WBO ranking climb)
Left Bunny
24 - 30 (Step up's & Securing Mandatory)
Look at the fights I think that he has been stepped up ex world champions or fights to secure the mandatory position in the IBF but with the injuries hampering him recently he has took a step back and has to climb back towards the world level. Senchenko is by far the biggest test and yes his career he was a world champ and fed fighters and lost to Mallignaggi who has been his most live opponent.
I hope that Kell will be the first to knock out Senchenko then have another fight before fighting for the World Title next year in the winner of Alexander vs Khan who we all know including Kell will be for a vacated strap as the winner of that will fight Floyd on May 4th

Re: Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?
Which fights would you class as step ups since he left FW? I would say Jennings has been his most live opponent by far.
Re: Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?
I would have said Hatton at the time was more live than Jennings based on experience and the fights he had and levels.
Lovemore N'Dou - Step up - Gatekeeper (Past his best but experienced at higher levels)
Rafal Jackiewicz - Step up for ranking position and again experienced at higher levels
Luis Galarza - American Debut (More an Experience)
Matthew Hatton - Step up and biggest fight at W/W in the UK at the time
Carson Jones - IBF Ranking 7 Eliminator (Experienced fighter again lost alot at LMW) Jones came to fight Kell hadn't prepared right as noted and this became his toughest fight to date
Hector Saldivia - IBF Final Eliminator (No step up as had a very flannelled record)
Injury to foot ankle hampered him for the Devon Alexander fight twice and I believe had he fought rather than Purdy he would have beat Alexander comfortably.
Carson Jones (Rematch) - Kell needed the fight to get out before close of the season wasn't right at the weight now moving onto Senchenko who will be the biggest test/name he has fought in his past 30 fights.
If you look at some of the fighters Kell beat comfortably they had lost to higher level opponents Jennings (Cotto) N'Dou & Hatton (Alvarez) Jackiewicz (Zaveck)
I will always have rose tinted glasses on though!!

Re: Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?
Well I cant remember the bookies odds but would have thought the Jennings fight (which had a very unsatisfactory ending) will have been the closest. I cant be bothered going through all the names you mentioned (but I could if I wanted to) but beating someone just because it is in America doesn't make it a good win and beating someone coming off a draw with Dean Byrne isn't impressive when, by all accounts, you should be the World champ by now! I would say we will wait and see, but considering its 5 years since he won his British title I think everybody's a bit sick of waiting...
Re: Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?
I also agree I am waiting with you, paid money to go to the USA earlier in the year that changed from Vegas to LA to Detroit to Atlantic City.
But in 2014 he will have his World Title shot and I am sure he will seize it with both hands

Re: Is Kell Brook Britain's most boring active boxer careerwise?
I guess due to us having a few years now of Saturday night build ups of Kells fights it would have been hoped that he was fighting for a world title now (which of course he would of but for extremely bad luck). It's just frustrating for everyone.
To be fair to Frankie he's an honest kid, he doesn't stand there calling out Kell and he's always said that kell is operating at a level above at the moment. I don't think it matters who Frankie fights aslong as he is back out in December, he would toy with any of them now he is back at his best but it would be nice if he moves to European level and within a year or so he is near the world level. I do think he'd be all wrong for Brook, he boxes beautifully, his footwork is outstanding, never wastes a punch and is almost impossible to hit. I can't see Brook coming forward in straight lines bothering him and he will be incredibly frustrated while Frankie will weave in and out chipping away at him. Would like it to happen within a couple of years if their careers go to plan though

Come on Mickey, you know how this plays out.
You don't have to beat the best, you have to beat who is put in front of you.
If the sanctioning body that you are focusing upon to win their title says fight x, fight y, fight mandatory etc etc that's what you do.
Let's all take a back seat now and see how this pans out after the end of October.
Very frustrating I know, I truly thought 2013 was Kell's year but hey one digit changing ....... 2014.
