Ola Afolabi

Post by Old bones Ian »

Ola Afolabi scored a decent win recently, outscoring Michael Simms at cruiserweight.
He was born in London, but has done all his pro fighting in the US.
looks as if he might be a half decent prospect , anyone know anything about him?

The amazing thing on his record is that Willy Chapman made Cruiserweight, unless of course Afolabi has been flirting with the Heavyweight division.

Afolabi is fighting Orlin Norris tonight. Supposedly at cruiserweight.

If you thought Chapman making 200lb was amazing, spare a thought for Norris. After the horrible days of being 246 against Nielsen, he seems to have been making an effort to get back down to cruiser, although he's been a stone over this year. Whether he has anything left or not is debatable, but all credit to him at the age of 40 trying to make a weight where he can be reasonably competitive

Afolabi wins TKO in the 7th. A big scalp.

Good win that, I know Norris was knocking on a bit in years but not many fighters with just 14 fights would have taken him on.
He was born in Britain , but i don't know if he moved when he was young or later on, anyone have any info on him?

A few more wins and i will be chanting his name, if i can learn how to say it first  Seriously a good win, the Crusierweight division isn't the strongest and there is an opening for someone with ability to exploit.

I saw olabi fight once on a guilty boxing card (they show these sometimes on channel BEN) and I have to say technically he is very poor but has a good workrate and is very awkward. All credit to him tho for winning despite his lack of ability.I think his win over norris is more an indication of how shot norris is rather than how good olabi is. He probably got the win over simms by outworking him - simms is talented but tends to get lazy.
