Nigel Benn vs. Roy Jones
Nigel Benn vs. Roy Jones
Who would win this and how?
I could see Jones sneaking away with a decision but I could also see Benn knocking Jones clear out.
Who,why and how?

One thing for sure about this fight is that Benn would make Jones fight, whether it lasted one round or went the route, and regardlerss of who ended up winning. I'd be very curious to see how Jones reacted to that, being in a fight with a guy determined to win and willing to fight to do so. And how he would handle getting hit, as he would at some point in a fight with Benn

re
Jones by knockout. RJJ was a viscous puncher at 168, that coupled with his overall ability and speed makes for a very, very bad night for Benn. I always loved to watch Benn, but Jones just had too much overall. Benn was never really an elusive kind of fighter and it was somewhat easy for a quality fighter to lands shots on him of which Jones would be all over him from every angle and again, at that weight Jones was a brutal hitter. I'd see Benn going down a few times before he was either counted out, or stopped by the ref.

How come he didn't stay there for long? Only name he took on at Super Middle was Toney.Richie Aprille rules wrote:Jones would win a wide decision or Knock out Benn early, as soon as the 4th round.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:Jones would win a wide decision or Knock out Benn late
jones is greatest super middle of all time
I hear he was Benn's mandatory for his WBC title but never went for it.
Yeah and stopped Galvano in 4.If feather-fisted Galvano could shake Benn, SMW Jones can knock him out without a doubt in my book
Benn's beenshook by harder punchers and come back from them.

In the second fight (a decision), he was badly shaken by Galvano in the last round, and if the fight had lasted one minute more, he could have been knocked out, as he was in queer street when the final bell rang.Max Molyneux wrote:How come he didn't stay there for long? Benn was incredible in the McClellan fight, but frankly, if the French referee hadn't refrain McClellan after he floored Benn, I think the G-MAN would have stopped Benn in the first.

I agree - The Ref did certainly help Benn out in the McClellan fight (after Benn was dropped) - Sad how that changed some much for McClellan - He stops Benn early in that fight and the clash of heads that takes place in the 9th or 10th round never occurs -
I think RJJ beats Benn clearly (UD) - But I think McClellan is actually the one could / would have KO'd Roy Jones at 160 or 168 -

the guys who beat benn had good chins and in the case of collins and eubank cast iron chins. i`ve seen chris eubank take shots that would poleaxe a rhino. jones was too fast and slick for nigel and would have outboxed him for a ud though.
but benn would have a punchers chance and rjj aint got no collins or eubank chin either.

re
Jones would toy with Benn and knock him out within five rounds. The only chance Benn would have would be to land a big, hail mary punch that Jones did not see, but in their primes I don't see that happening. Jones just had too many assets for Benn to handle!
Firstly as regards McClellan. He didn't beat Benn end of. How long did the ref help Benn? For 3mins for 9 rounds? McClellan ahad ample time to beat Benn and never did. I think the reason he lost was his stamina. Only went the distance twice and they were 8 rounders. Benn had been in tough fights and been 12 rounds. McClellan just didn't have enough left and has Benn got stronger, McCellan folded. Anyway Benn always wanted RJJ. He spoke about it after a quite a few of his fights. But after McClellan I thinm RJJ thought he better avoid Benn. There have been quite a few stories on how RJJ avoided many of the best fighters and although he had great ability how many fighters did he avoid? My head says RJJ would outbox Benn and maybe force a late stoppage. Benn did have a suspect chin. But Benn had so much heart and for the really big fghts just worked himself up not to lose. If Benn caught RJJ he would ko him as I think Benn had one of the best one punch KO's. But I also think Benn would want it so much he would just come relentlessly at RJJ and just not give up. To be honest in the fights I thought Benn could lose he won and the ones where I thought he would win easily he lost. I'm sitting on the fence for this one!
Just an interesting point. Benn went the distance 4 out of 5 fights before McClellan adding to my theory that he was to strong McClellan. Lets end this debate because unlike other if's or but's number 1 they fought and number 2 it was a KO not a dogey points verdict! On another issue has RJJ got the reord for holding the most world titles at anyone one time? 7 alphabet titles!
