Groves beats Froch all day long
Groves beats Froch all day long
Who's with me? I just have a major hunch that Groves will pull this off. I know it's about levels, but I firmly believed that Groves would beat DeGale and he did, and I feel strongly that George will dethrone Froch as well.
Why will Groves win?
He's younger, he cracks HARDER IMO, he's improving and on the up, he's faster and he can box to a strategy devised by the irritatingly smarmy, but clever, Adam "2 Smooth" Booth. Taking the outstanding Bute victory to one side, Froch hasn't looked good against a very faded Kessler, Ward and Glen Johnson. Styles make fights and the only way Froch wins this is if Groves stupidly engages him in a toe-to-toe, but George is far too smart.
I was beginning to think that I was largely on my own, but having spoken to Steve Goodwin this evening, who also massively fancies Groves, I thought I'd declare my hand now. In fact, I just can't see Groves losing this. Timing is everything in Boxing, and this is Groves' time.
Lump on while you can.

Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
Kessler maybe faded a bit Ben, but to say Froch didn't look good is stretching it mate.
I like Groves as well, I'm a convert and he can win this fight, however the smart money has to be on the proven fighter who is still pretty much in his prime.
Groves I don't think has the durability or chin to hang with Froch.
If Groves is to win I actually think he has to catch Froch cold.
I can't see it but its an excellent fight

Thanks Wrist, appreciate your points. Do you think Groves' chin is that bad? He's been hurt by Anderson and Smith, which is a major concern, but I think he's sensible enough not to mix it with Carl as he proved against DeGale. Smart money is on Froch, the value undoubtedly is in Groves.Wrists wrote:Kessler maybe faded a bit Ben, but to say Froch didn't look good is stretching it mate.

I don't think his chin is 'bad' I see it as being less than stellar.
I don't think Groves can do what he did against DeGale for 12 rounds. I think Froch is too good at cutting the ring off ala the Bute fight.
I think Froch wins this late doors.

Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
I can see Groves's hands down in out kind of style giving Froch a lot of problems. But the volume of punches that are going to be coming at Groves may end up catching up with him. 12 rounds is a long time for Groves to have to use that style and we saw against DeGale how many punches he was taking and how bust up he ended up getting. Froch may be a bit slower (oddly he seems to have become a lot quicker in recent fights) than DeGale but he hits way harder.
In my opinion it is a hell of a lot closer than most have it but I still just about favour Carl.

I think Groves can win this fight, but I favour Froch's experience and pressure to tell in the late rounds. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Groves takes a decision though.
Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
Groves is capable of winning the fight, but he's going to have to stand and trade with Froch at some stage and that may well determine the outcome of the fight. The keys for Groves are to trade on his own terms and speed, both foot and hand speed, to get in and out. He also needs to avoid going back in straight lines, come in at an angle and get out in another.
Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
Groves has politics on his side...
Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
I think this fight has come 12 months to early for groves but am looking forward to it all the same, froch mid rounds IMO
Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
I rate Groves, but I stand by my original belief that this has come 12-18 months too early for him and while he'll start strong, he'll start to wilt under Froch's unrelenting pressure. Late stoppage for the Cobra, while a strong enough showing from Groves will ensure he can learn from it and come again.

I'm a big Groves fan and have followed his career from the beginning; a big part of me wishes that this fight would be this time next year with Groves having even more of a chance at turning Froch over. But I echo what you say; Groves can come away from this with plenty credit and will come again even stronger. Froch is too professional to overlook him so I don't think it's plausible to suggest that Froch won't come prepared as he always does.
There are definitely ways for Groves to beat Froch, he isn't invincible, but he has a far better boxing brain and ability than he gets credit for. Groves will pick up a few early rounds, but I see Froch winning a wide UD.

Groves is a better boxer and he's younger, fresher, faster and possibly hits harder. I think he's going to win but he is going to need a ton of resilience aswell.

Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
im amazed how many people genuinely believe groves beat degale. I was glad he got the nod, but in my heart I knew he lost. It certainly wasn't a massively impressive performance for me.
im also starting to wonder if adam booth is hugely overated as a tactician. his tactics seem to consist of his fighters legging it in their biggest fights.

I fancy Groves. I also fancy Groves to win the fight.
Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
There are three likely outcomes in this bout:-
1. Froch stops Groves
2. The ref stops Groves
3. Booth stops Groves
Your welcome.

I can't see this making a difference. I think I hit quite hard, by if I punched Ben Nevis, nothing would happen...Ben Carey wrote:Who's with me? Re: Groves beats Froch all day long
I think Groves has a good chin. Anderson floored him and he got up and won. People say Haye is chinny but he's never been KOd, always got up to win. That's the sign of a good chin. Taylor put Froch down and he rose to win. I think Groves can take a shot and Froch will win on points or late stoppage but it won't be due to Groves chin, it will be due to punishmentBen Carey wrote:Thanks Wrist, appreciate your points. If Groves sticks to a gameplan he wins, he has a speed advantage in my opinion and he could jab his way to the title.

I agree with the majority of your post but im not sure it has anything to do with it coming early. I just think that Groves isnt durable enough to deal with Froch at anytime. He might outbox Froch for awhile but eventually he'll catch up with him IMO.Deserter wrote:I rate Groves, but I stand by my original belief that this has come 12-18 months too early for him and while he'll start strong, he'll start to wilt under Froch's unrelenting pressure. I love a punt here and there, so taking emotion out of it for a moment - in these sort of fights I always steer away.Ben Carey wrote:

It's actually when the reverse is true that you lump on for the "value" bet.
E.g. the favourite to win the fight is slightly vulnerable around the chin, and the big outsider possesses a bit of a whack on them.
You never bet when it's the other way round - when the favourite has a fantastic chin, can also bang and the big outsider has a set of vulnerable whiskers.
