Which channels show boxing in UK nowadays?

Post by handsofstone »

I,m a tivo customer with virgin and am subscribed to Sky Sports and Allegedly but from today ESPN is no longer available on the virgin format,as an avid boxing fan i watch every fight on every station apart from Eurosport, but i need to check every channels own webpage daily to make sure i dont miss anything but im getting sick and tired doing that, especially as some channels havent shown a live show in months,so id like an update please if anyones any wiser :TU:

Loaded-I heard they were pulling the plug, have they?is it definite?
Premier Sports-Havent shown a live fight for nearly a year, are they out also?
Channel 5-Were supposed to be pulling out then showed Furys last fight, any idea where they stand these days?
Primetime- they show about 1 fight a year, whats going on?
BT Sports-any plans to show boxing as of yet?

I love the Friday Night Fight series on ESPN but i cant afford to subscibe to that and BT if it starts showing boxing and becomes available on virgin

Is that because of BT coming on the scene?

A shame no one picks up the weekly televised Thai cards. Many of them are fun to watch, especially ones like today's.

When allegedly started, I thought this kind of thing (rather than showing endless repeats) would be their schedule fillers.

Would have made sense. I can't imagine it costing a lot to get a live feed, or tape delay, of the Channel 7 cards, working out a deal with Kameda/Teiken/Ohashi Gym/Ioka Gym.

Getting fights like Kompayak Porpramook v Koki Eto would have helped expose how great this sport really is at the moment, rather than letting us all believe the sport is dying.

Exactly. There are a lot of cards they could pick up cheaply that would give them a USP. I'm sre there must be a reason they haven't, I'm just curious as to what the reason is.

Sometimes Eurosport show live boxing. Last week, for instance, they had the Solis fight. Fights can also pop up on Premier Sports (another subscription channel) as well - I think I watched the last Adamek/Cunningham fight there.

The Sky Planner lets you search by category (sport) and then by sub category (boxing). I do that once a week and am able to find most of the boxing that's on. You'll get a ton of stuff listed most of which will be allegedly/ESPN Classic filler/repeats but if you spend a few minutes going through the results you can normally find stuff the stuff you want to watch. I would imagine that the Virgin Planner/Channel Guide would allow a similar kind of search.

BT have bought ESPN (the UK TV channels anyway) and they now operate under the same banner. So if you want to watch ESPN, you're going to have to get the BT Sport package.....
