This is a closer fight than most suggest. It's a classic tale of old and established Vs Young and hungry. I actually think Carl is slightly on the slide. His reactions and speed aren't what they used to be and I also think every time that iron jaw takes one it loses a tiny bit of resistance too. Groves has speed and power which I think can win him this fight. If he goes toe to tow with Carl I think he will get stopped but if he's patient, fights cagey and waits to land a bomb I genuinely reckon he can stop Froch. It's one of those fights for me in which i wouldn't be surprised at almost any outcome.

We'll see Hagler, I just know he's definitely got the bit between his teeth for this one.

Froch may be ever so slightly on the slide, however he has all the form, class and advantages in this fight.

Groves is a very good fighter, make no bones about that and I suspect he bangs very hard even at this top level.

However, I think Froch is too good at cutting the ring, the way in which he in effect walked down Bute was brilliant.

At some point Groves's pot shotting Booth approach will have to be abandoned and it is at that point where Carl wins the fight either via late stoppage or on points.

Groves will come again though, that isn't in doubt.

I dont think Froch is on the slide. If anything he's been looking even better and quicker in his last few fights!

I don't see froch sliding physically any time soon but I'll be surprised if he's as up for this one as he was for Kessler, that's another reason why I fancy groves.

Take your point mate, but disagree because next time froch loses now then I reckon he will retire.

Personally I think he might have thought even if he lost to Kessler again, or even to ward again possibly, he still had the option of a final pay day in defeat to take on either groves or degale.

That option is gone now he is facing groves so soon. If Froch loses i cant see any other option. I'm sure there is a rematch clause, but unless it was a paper thin or disputed loss then cant see him taking that and then risking his legacy a touch by ending in double defeat to a relative "novice" he'd alresdy said was level below him.

So, if anything i see him being equally as motivated as least

Froch is a model professional and I doubt that either he or McCracken will allow any complacency to set in, no matter how the sparring with Groves went; I can imagine a fit and focused Froch facing a very well drilled and motivated Groves; it'll be a good bout and my money is on Groves.

I put a fiver on and my son does too, I've seen big gamblers and they don't seem to enjoy a win much more than a small staker, (and I'm hard up); would you offer bookies odds and how would we settle? :TU:

The fact Froch dropped Groves whilst they were wearing headgear and 20oz gloves doesnt look for Groves's chances in this fight though.

Sparring is sparring though columbo though I take your point; if Groves was there as a sparring partner then he's not there to do any damage himself and the paying fighter can take advantage; 'd have thought there are lots of boxers who have had a beating in sparring and it's been different when they face off for real.

I dunno. I remember Froch saying at the time that Groves really had a go. He wasnt lacking in the balls department which you can always see in George's fights. That itself isnt that bad but ive heard a lot of rumours of Groves being put down in sparring! I cant even remember the names as they wernt particularily well known guys so George can go down! He's got a lot of heart but that leads to him having a tear up aswell and Froch isnt a good guy to have a tear up with to be honest.

I reckon Ward would beat Froch in a phone booth and that's not a troll, that's for real.

Probably but Ward likes to Maul and rabbit punch on the inside. Froch prefers to box on the outside and also he has long arms so it doesnt suit him being an inside fighter and it's hard to be effective with that body type on the inside.

It amazes me people (not saying you have done this) think he ran in their fight. He beat Froch fighting from the outside and in the clinches. He did tire a bit and Froch won the last 2 rounds but Ward is definitely not someone to be compared with say a Dirrell.

I think Froch somehow has got a bit quicker since his loss to Ward. In a lot of fights he has looked really slow, in particular against Taylor, Dirrell and Ward but also at times against Kessler in their first fight. Against Bute and Kessler in the 2nd fight there was no looking slow and ponderous and untidy at all, his jab was on song in the 2nd Kessler fight and got him the score lead that possibly ended up being crucial.

I think Ward would win a rematch but perhaps not quite as lopsidedly as the first fight.

The super six ruined everyone in it - except Carl & Ward.

I'd even say it helped that Ward didn't even leave the country, with Kessler Green and Bika brought to him.

Kessler retired
Johnson has nothing left
Green got banjo'd
Abraham ruined
Taylor absolutely wrecked
Dirrel left tourney thanks to Dr Shaw

Carl was dog tired at the end, but now fully rested he's better than ever.

Ward would have won wherever it took place, he just wouldn't have been paid as much. There was a serious underestimation of Ward before the tournament, and my posts on here show I'm not jumping on the bandwagon. He was always going to win.

What do you think is next for Dirrell? I thought he was brilliant against Froch and Abraham but his his inactivity is definitely a worry. Is that it for him? What a waste if it is.

I dont think it ruined everybody. It just showed who can cut it and who cant which is a good thing. Johnson is getting old anyway so he was bound to slow down at some point and Green well he's just chinny as hell and everytime he steps in with someone with a bit of a dig he tends to end up going down even if he wins. Abraham just fought better comp which he wanted to do and got found wanting and Taylor was there for the taking aswell and has been exposed. Finally regarding Dirrell well what happened to him against Abraham could of happened in a fight outside of the tournament. So that's not a big issue. His problem is he hasnt been active since recovering and that hasnt been helped by leaving Shaw and signing with Mayweather and 50 cent before their venture went all tits up and now just 50. He's not getting fights even though he could be the best fighting in the division outside of Ward.

Andre Dirrell should be Andre Klump, because he and his family are like The Klumps all sitting round farting and playing Madden on the playstation.

He sacked Al Haymon and walked away from Mayweather Sr to be promoted AND trained by his god damn Grandpa Klump.

Only an absolute nugget or someone terrified would do that. I think it's a bit of both.
