Did you consider Fighting Harada who beat Jofre twice? He also won both the flyweight and bantamweight championships and was a bad decision against Johnny Famechon (he knocked Famechon down 3 times and even the hometown Sydney crowd booed the decision given to Famechon) away from winning 3 of the 8 original championships. I consider Harada the most accomplished oriental fighter ever.

No way Marciano is ahead of Holmes. And also journeyman Walcottelmersalsa wrote:This is my list of the 50 greatest fighters of all time, based on historical impact, awards and accomplishments, division dominance, world championship records, world records held, quality of opposition, longevity and contributions and influence in the sport of boxing.

Great list! Holyfield (champion from '86 to '00 against top-notch competition, starting with his twelveth pro fight) should be higher, of course. He was exactly in the Robinson/Armstrong mould (but , you know, heavier...surely, he would KO Charles, for example). Really solid list nonetheless. Hat's off to you, (E)lmersalsa, if I may.
ediit: Oh, and I would have Finito higher than #50. Just watch him once, and you know PDQ.

ur calling all time great ring technician jersey joe walcott a journeyman???
This is not Jersey Joe Walcott that I am speaking of. I am referring to the great "Barbados Demon", the ORIGINAL Joe Walcott who fought heavyweights being a welterweight. I was impressed of his line of work.

Overall a good list. There isn't anyone in there that you can't atleast make a case for.
I also don't understand why Dran is so often rated higher than Leonard.
I do think that George Dixon should be in there as well as Bob Foster, and at the risk of sounding like broken record, Harold Johnson.
I would also put Michael Spinks much higher.
Again, overall, a respectable list. I know that it's difficult comparing fighters from different weight classes and different eras.

Re: elmersalsa's top 50 greatest fighters of all-time
Great list, my only difference is that I never lump the real heavyweight champs thru history with the lighter weight fighters.......elmersalsa wrote:This is my list of the 50 greatest fighters of all time, based on historical impact, awards and accomplishments, division dominance, world championship records, world records held, quality of opposition, longevity and contributions and influence in the sport of boxing.

Bit like the p4p debate, there's the heavies and then the rest of the gang....that's the beauty of the sport of boxing, it has the premier division....
Ali number 1 followed by Louis, Marciano, Foreman, Dempsey, Frazier, Johnson, Holmes, Holyfield and Tyson.....
Outside of the heavies you have to have Ray Robinson as number 1, followed by Duran, Armstrong, Ray Leonard, Monzon,
Good list, have to disagree with some of the ordering though, but hey with as many fighters as there have been in history its hard to get agreement on that large a scale. Most notably, Ali is rated way to high in my opinion, but everybody rates that guy to high because he was so popular. Then again, maybe I'm just a hater. I feel like I'm always pointing out how over rated he was. Kid chocolate would be in the first part of my list so his absence is a porblem for me too. Gota drop Jack Johnson way down as well. Impressive list though. Where did you find video of all these guys?
