Kiko Martinez leapfrogs Frampton to world title tilt

I noticed Kiko Martinez, who was knocked out by Carl Frampton not so long ago, is fighting for the IBF superbantamweight title this Saturday on the undercard of Geale vs Barker. I think he's got a real chance at winning too. His opponent is undefeated and a tall and rangy Superbantamweight but has been down a few times in his career.

If he wins, he'll be the second super-bantam in recent times to have lost to a British fighter and then go on to be a world champion. The first being Victor Terrazas who was stopped in 5 by Rendall Munroe but is now the current WBC champ. It just shows a loss or two along the road isn't the be all end all. Also, are British promoters/managers missing a trick by failing to secure world title shots for their fighters? Do you think British promoters are too risk averse?

If I was Frampton I would be having words with my promoter (if only he knew a promoter who was "friendly" with the IBF) .......

I think they are looking to cash in with a few fights in Belfast that they know Frampton will win before taking the gamble and going for the World title. If Martinez were to win tho surely that would accelerate things and they would make him a big offer to come to Belfast again.

If kiko wins it Carl would beat him even more convincingly to take the title

Thought Carl was offered the fight first and stalled over it so they looked else were Carl will win a world title soon
