I have to say with two months to go...the pictures he is posting of his gut makes the camp look like a bunch of amateurs...Terrible shape!

Yeah I saw it he will need to get the road work in maybe give his horse a rest and start pulling his own trap.

Not in the best of shape around the mid section but with 2 months to go he should be OK come fight night - Think he's still going to taste his first defeat though

Also for a big heavyweight he has no muscle definition at all, no lats or traps. I think he still needs a better strength and conditioner. He's a big guy but he should be in so much be better condition at this stage of his career.

He can easily loose that in a month let alone two! No need to peak to soon it's all about getting exactly right. If he was cut already it would be crazy. Hate had a gut two weeks before fighting one of his opponents ( can't remember who old age is getting me)

It was a against Ruiz, but that was only because he couldn't train for a while due to an injury. Seeing as HWs don't have to make weight why would it be crazy to be cut at this stage?

Fury is a big guy has two months until the fight. Every fighter or every sportsman for that fact will know how there own body reacts. I believe Fury knows he can put the training in and peak at the right time. You can't physically walk round at your competitive level the whole time it's all about precise timing. All this is of the assumption that Tyson and his team know what they are doing! I am just a normal PT so I would like to think they know lol

Haye's version of a 'gut' is a bit different than the average though! He still looked in pretty good nick.

Fury seems to put on weight very easily for a man his age this presumably indicates inactivity between fights and over eating/poor diet- neither are good indicators for an athlete. He will be in shape for the Haye fight but a higher level of between fight fitness would be preferable.

Tyson looks like me but he's taller, I've got a belly and spindly legs, not sure I could sort it in a couple of months though.

How so? I think so many heavyweights these days fail to come in proper shape and cold perform a lot better if they took training more seriously.

Body builder style definition is not needed for boxers and can be detrimental BUT gut fat is not in anyway an advantage and shows lack of training and poor diet.

Cushioning. Toney’s got a pot belly, but he’s never looked too badly trouble or winded from a body shot. Although Toney’s used to sparring a lot so that could account for it. Ripped bodies look great, and some are naturally ripped, but a lot of modern fighters spend a 12 week camp coming down in weight, crash some of it and rip themselves up in the final few weeks, which could weaken them and leaves a nice target area for those who know how to pick a spot.

It’s probably a lot to do with the modern fascination with the body beautiful. Some big guys from bygone eras could fight and never got stopped due to body blows.

I agree you don't need to look like a builder to be able fight effectively; this is fighting not a Mr.Olympia contest at the end of the day. However, excess weight for me hinders a fighters mobility and shows they've cut corners either in training or with their diet. Guillermo Jones looked great recently against Lebedev despite coming in "soft". But at HW there's a plethora of guys who could seriously drop 10-20lbs and perform better as a result. No-one more so than Odlanier Solis; what a fat waste of talent that guy is! :witzend:

Not always. Not everyone’s ripped up. I’m not advocating a bulging guy, just pointing out that it doesn’t always mean you can’t do the rounds. It varies from fighter to fighter. That's why it is best to look at Fury's case for what it is.
Frazier didn't have a gut and was fit as a riddle. Genes plays a massive role

What a load of rubbish you don't need a six pack to be a good fighter or in shape , never heard so much rubbish in my life, look at larry Holmes and others Infact there's not many heavies with 6 packs and the guys that are saying a bit body fat round the waist to cushion body shots are spot on, heavy weights are different and that's a fact

You are right but there does need to be conditioned muscle under the fat layer, body builder muscle definition is not a requirement but does look good.

Everybody reacts differently to training and diet but as far as im concerned anyone who is paid to be a professional athlete should be able to make the proper lifestyle changes to avoid being in terrible shape like that. I doubt he will be as fat on fight night but that aint the shape of a fighter never mind a fighter we are expected to pay PPV for. lol

John McDermott always looks in terrible shape, but he's supposed to be really fit. Always at the front of the running etc.

I guess genetics is a huge part of it.

I'd say it's more likely to be diet.

I agree you can't stay a peak all the time, but as I'm sure you know being at peak fitness and looking cut are not the same thing. For a HW it depends on what sort of shape you come into camp in.

But in general I agree with two months to go I'm sure he'll be in great shape come fight time. :TU:

Maybe. All I know is I have some mates in their 30s and 40s who booze and eat shit, do little exercise, and yet still look in great shape externally.

I look at a slice in Gregg's window and stick three pounds on.
