water during breaks between rounds
water during breaks between rounds
is it about time boxing moved forward with the times, for many years boxers have been allowed to ingest only water inbetween rounds. should they now be allowed isotonic drinks as per virtually every other sport. tennis players have now moved on from barley water....footballers no longer have a 1/4 of an orange.
come on boxing officionados, its time to move forward. allow rehydration drinks, or at least sips of them.
could it save/have saved peoples lives?

Re: water during breaks between rounds
could you imagine the arguments between the opposing camps before a fight trying to agree what they are allowed to drink.
I guess the only way is to have a standard isotonic type drink supplied by the various boards or governing bodies

I was under the impression that water is the best fluid your body can possibly have

Re: water during breaks between rounds
maybe fluids such as water, sugar and salt that they give you in hospital. A medical company could make the fluid and be BBBoC could allow the fluid to be taken in between rounds. Then there is no arguing ammonst camps etc who has the best energy drink.

Dont see any reason to change it , Water is the most important ingredient to rehydration .
Re: water during breaks between rounds
Should be able to stick a bit of potassium in there at least.
Re: water during breaks between rounds
Certain countries isotonic drinks are allowed or is it organisations?

You've been to some interesting partiesDead Mouse wrote:Ali used honey and water prepared by Dundee. Water's good enough for most fighters. You don't want them to drink too much, get a whack to the guts and shower everyone in piss. We should save that for the post-fight party.

im no health nutritionist but i thought 'recovery drinks' were for after competing to replenish lost nutrition ????
Re: water during breaks between rounds
Those drinks are also useful in cases where the participants exercise for a period in excess of 90 mins and therefore their glycogen stores and electrolytes (including salts among other compounds) become depleted.sweetscience wrote:im no health nutritionist but i thought 'recovery drinks' were for after competing to replenish lost nutrition ????
Boxing is not long enough to require this, and in truth neither does football (when it doesn't have the chance of going to extra time), but the game has a lot of marketing involved with it and lucozade etc need to be able to sell their products. On top of this what sports people/teams do can often be quite backward and behind current research and evidence.
To summarise, the drinks would provide no additional benefit to a fighter beyond that of water, bar creating a placebo effect.

How about using some of the late Michael Jackson's "Jesus Juice"? That's got to be one hell of a drink.

Exactly. Look at Prior the Hawk and the placebo effect against porno tache Alexis. There is no way Panama Lewis had put anything other than water in that bottle. Fair enough, he asked for "the one I mixed", but surely that was just an honest slip of the tongue.palooka wrote:Which can be powerful.BigEars wrote:Those drinks are also useful in cases where the participants exercise for a period in excess of 90 mins and therefore their glycogen stores and electrolytes (including salts among other compounds) become depleted.sweetscience wrote:im no health nutritionist but i thought 'recovery drinks' were for after competing to replenish lost nutrition ????

Not a very good example to be fair the lads are talking about legal drinks and what effect they will have.

I bet you've got a few cans of that in the fridge, just in case...Teddy's Toupee wrote:How about using some of the late Michael Jackson's "Jesus Juice"? That's got to be one hell of a drink.

But its ingestion is slow, its not the best, its not isotonic.damianhucker1 wrote:Dont see any reason to change it , Water is the most important ingredient to rehydration .
Re: water during breaks between rounds
The best thing is not to dehydrate yourself making weight and boxing at a weight limit that is healthy for you, if you're relying on rehydrating your fluids so as not to suffer fatigue then it's a gamble regardless of what you drink.rhino222 wrote:But its ingestion is slow, its not the best, its not isotonic.damianhucker1 wrote:Dont see any reason to change it , Water is the most important ingredient to rehydration .
