5 star fights on boxrec

does anybody know how 5 star fights are decided on boxrec

cleverly is fight Kovalev which is a great fight between unbeaten fighters and is 4 star

burns is fighting beltran who got beat six times and is a 5 star fight

just wondering could anybody shed light on the matter as the cleverly fight is way better on paper

For a fight to be given a 5 star rating, both contestants must have at least 331 rating points.

Both Burns and Beltran meet this requirement - so their fight is given 5 stars.

Cleverly only has only 297 points (kovalev 428) - so theirs can't be a 5 star fight.

Donair vs rigondeaux was a 4 star both had belts, both world class, since then I lost all respect for boxrec star rating

Good point.

A lot of people seems to think they are created in the manner my old pal Macho describes above, but they are based on a complicated (to me) mathematical formula. They get slagged off regularly but if someone wants to come up with a better system which doesn't involve their opinion being more informed than anyone else, go for it. In fact, the system has been refined over the years.

But it will always, always throw up anomalies.

The belts, or being 'world class' means nowt with regards to the ratings - and nor should they IMO.

Still, I'm surprised. If they had a rematch it certainly would be 5 star - they've got over 600+ each.

If what you say is true, it must have been down to Rigo only having 11 fights, 'world class' or not.

A better system would be doing it manually surely it couldnt get any worse.. Burns v Beltran should be 4 star although a very good fight and Clev fight should deffo be 5.. But look Fury v Haye is 5 star the system is flawed in many ways same as the rankings but I think it's better to have something than nothing

It's not perfect, but it's objective, which is far better than a subjective list, in my subjective opinion.

Nothing wrong with how boxrec ratings work , and for me hold more weight that the ABC organisations due to them being not someones opinion or financially motivated .

Many promoters/matchmakers across the world use boxrec as their main starting point .

Historical ratings dont quite work out right , but its the current ratings that interest me .

Up until a couple weeks ago Geale v Barker was a 4 star fight.

Boxrec's rating points do seem to seriously favour bigger fighters
