Heavyweight fights that you can recommend me
Heavyweight fights that you can recommend me
I mean heavyweight fights from 70's to now.
As far as I remember these fights I watched and I appreciated them very much (for your knowledge about my taste, I think):
- Ali vs. Foreman
- Ali vs. Frazier I and III
- Bowe vs. Holyfield I
- Cooney vs. Holmes
- Norton vs. Holmes
- Foreman vs. Lyle
- Golota vs. Bowe I and II
- Lyle vs. Shavers
- Ibeabuchi vs. Tua
Other fights which I watched:
- Ali vs. Frazier II
- Foreman vs. Frazier I and II
- Ali vs. Liston I and II
- Bowe vs. Holyfield II and III
- Cooney vs. Foreman
- Cooney vs. Norton
- Golota vs. Byrd, Ruiz, Grant, Lewis, Brewster, Tyson, Saleta, Adamek, Po'uha (well, I'm Polish so when I became interested in boxing I started at Golota's fights)
- Ibeabuchi vs. Byrd
- Moorer vs. Cooper
- Tyson vs. Berbick
- Tyson vs. Douglas
- Tyson vs. Holyfield I and II
- Tyson vs. Lewis
- V. Kliczko vs. Lewis
- W. Kliczko vs. Sanders
- Morrison vs. Lewis
- Morrison vs. Ruddock
- Morrison vs. Mercer
- V. Kliczko vs. Byrd
- W. Kliczko vs. Brewster
- Haye vs. Chisora
- Fury vs. Chisora
- Tyson vs. Holmes
- Lewis vs. Rahman I and II
- Lewis vs. McCall I and II
- Holyfield vs. Valuev
- Holyfield vs. Ruiz I
- ...
For sure there were more fights I watched but I won't write you all of them.
I don't want to watch fights before Ali vs. Liston for now. I want to watch some later fights. In the future I will check Liston, Louis, Dempsey, Marciano etc. but not now. That's not the proper time. I want to watch more later fights now :).
I noticed that I appreciate very much fights from 70's, then 90's and then 80's. I don't appreciate very much fights from XXI century (Lewis vs. Kliczko was quite good - not one of my best but still good to watch; and except this one and couple of Golota's fights it wasn't so good in my opinon). Maybe you can change my opinion about fights from XXI century and recommend me some good ones.
Is there a fight that was amazing in your opinion and I didn't write about it and you think I should watch it? Thx for answers :)

Re: Heavyweight fights that you can recommend me
One that is often overlooked was Weaver/Coetzee. That was a war.
Re: Heavyweight fights that you can recommend me
Is 1969 close enough to your range?
If so, the first Frazier-Quarry fight is a must. Fight of the Year in '69 as named by Ring Magazine.
Their first round that night was one of the best heavyweight rounds in history. (unless you need knockdowns to think a round great)
Sports Illustrated termed that first round as "two rhinos quarreling in the bush".
The level of activity throughout that fight shames what passes for heavyweight "action" nowadays.

The first Frazier-Ellis fight in early '70 should also be on your list.
That fight unified the title and showed Frazier at his peak.

Re: Heavyweight fights that you can recommend me
It can be. If we talk about guys like Frazier, Ali, Foreman etc. (a new, young generation of boxers) you can recommend me their fights from 60's.Is 1969 close enough to your range?
It's not necessary. As far as I remember, there were no knockdowns in the 10th round of Bowe vs. Holyfield I but it's one of the best rounds I've ever watched. :)Their first round that night was one of the best heavyweight rounds in history. (unless you need knockdowns to think a round great)
I will watch them. Thx for recommendations for all. :)

Re: Heavyweight fights that you can recommend me
Great list, although Ettiene-Brewster is a little too one-sided in my opinion after the first round IMO to fit in with that company. Ettiene-Clay Bey is a much better fight.evrenb wrote:How about Clifford Ettiene vs Lamon BrewsterDuch wrote:I mean heavyweight fights from 70's to now.

Coetzee does a good bit of grappling, but it's a physical, grinding, bout.evrenb wrote:I have never seen this bout believe it or not?? Between when I started watching boxing and after my favoured era...SaadOffTheDeck wrote:One that is often overlooked was Weaver/Coetzee. That was a war.

The two fights that I can't find, not that they're great, are the two robberies Page had over George Chaplin.

Bruno v jumbo Cummins ---- legendary wobble as frank is extended into the 7th and hammers Cummins for the win.
Matt Skelton v Bob Mirovic --- I cant find this anywhere but someone most have it. a really titanic struggle about 8 years ago. matt and bob swing for four rounds. if bob's corner had of waited a few seconds Skeltons corner were on the verge of pulling him out. gripping stuff.
Matt Skelton v Danny Williams 1. a great raw 12 rounder.
Minto v maddalone 1
many of the Danny Williams fights were memorable up to scott gammer. in particular Sprott ii

Botha/Briggs was a fun, sloppy, brawl.

Greg Page-Stan Ward is a nice little fight, very underrated.
